Chief Judge from Sichuan: No Public Hearing for Falun Gong Cases

March 12, 2016 |

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jiang Mengmei's public hearing was scheduled for March 2, 2016, but the chief judge announced the trial's cancellation at the last minute, when people were already seated for the hearing. He said, “There is no public hearing for Falun Gong cases.”

Ms. Jiang's family, family members of two other practitioners who were being prosecuted together with her, and her lawyer arrived at 9:30 a.m. on March 2 and waited outside the Yanting County courthouse. Some of them came from Deyang, more than 100 miles away, the previous day. The lawyer came from faraway Beijing. They were seated inside the courthouse at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The lawyer presented the evidence and asked judge Gan Yonghong to hold a public hearing. The judge replied, “I've never held a public hearing for a Falun Gong case.”

The lawyer said, “That just means you've always gone against the law.” Judge Gan then changed to another excuse, “We are not holding hearings today.”

Background

Ms. Jiang is a practitioner from Deyang, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province. She was arrested on June 4, 2015 by police officers from local Luyang Police Station and Yanting County Domestic Security Division when she was helping an old practitioner fill in the form for express mail at a postal office. The mail was about a case of suing Jiang Zemin.

Later, the Yanting County Procuratorate prosecuted her, her boss Ms. Lu Shengli and another practitioner Ms. Tan Shuhui for their distributing the truth materials about Falun Gong in Yanting County. The court notified their family and lawyers to attend the hearing on March 2, 2016.
