How Long Can the Chinese Communist Party Deny the Existence of Forced Organ Harvesting?

November 12, 2016 |   By Sima Tai

(Minghui.org) Xinhua News Agency, the dictatorial media outlet in China, published an article on October 16 denying the existence of forced organ harvesting in China.

A religious researcher named Anxin from Pai Chai University in South Korea had made some comments to media after Falun Gong practitioners told Chinese students and visiting scholars on the campus about forced organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Influenced by the Chinese regime's hate propaganda against Falun Gong, several Chinese students debated the issue. Anxin thus suggested that the Chinese regime provide evidence to the overseas Chinese students that would support their arguments. But in the news reported by Xinhua, Anxin's suggestion was twisted and toted as an example of an overseas scholar's disbelief in forced organ harvesting.

Data Discrepancies from Chinese Hospitals Involved in Organ Transplant Surgeries

Totalitarian rule and the government-controlled news media in China, ensure that many officials, physicians, and scholars do not provide factual data on about organ transplant surgeries. Nonetheless, based on the information that has been published, we are able to find some clues to the existence of a large live organ bank.

An article in Phoenix Weekly in November 2013 said that organ transplant tourism to China had become very popular. “It is so easy to do a kidney transplant that it is just like going to buy a pig kidney at the slaughterhouse.” This statement was referring to the short waiting times across China for almost any type of organ transplant, where at a minimum a matching organ could be found in one or two days. In the US, the most advanced country in the world for organ transplants, the waiting time for a kidney from a deceased donor is five to ten years.

Noting the short waiting times for organs, many medical experts outside of China suspect the existence of an underground organ supply, or a repository of live organs for harvest and will recommend their patients not travel to China for a transplant.

Chief surgeon of the Hepatobiliary Division in Peking University Hospital Zhu Jiye once disclosed that more than 4,000 kidney transplants are performed at the hospital each year. This number is 40 times higher than the hospital's openly published number of 100 kidney transplant cases per year.

Such data discrepancies are also found at other hospitals.

The Oriental Organ Transplant Center is a 500-bed hospital that opened in 2006 and underwent an expansion in 2008. A staff member from Tianjin Architecture Design Institute said the hospital has a bed occupancy rate of over 90 percent, which means that between 5,000 and 8,000 organ transplant surgeries are conducted at this hospital each year.

These figures directly debunk the official figures that claim only 10,000 organ transplant cases take place in China each year nationwide.

The Facts Speaks for Themselves

Following the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passing H.Res. 343 in June 2016, three independent investigators, David Kilgour, David Matas, and Ethan Gutmann published an updated report providing detailed information on the state-sanctioned crime of forced organ harvesting.

Without any evidence to refute the reports, the Chinese communist regime continued to deny the allegations and even claimed that its transplant procedures had been accepted by international society.

When the 26th International Congress of The Transplantation Society was held in Hong Kong from August 19 to 23, 2016, president of the Transplantation Society, Dr. Philip J. O'Connell, addressed the Chinese speakers at the convention: “It is important that you understand that the global community is appalled by the practices that the Chinese have adhered to in the past.”

The Global Times and other CCP controlled media claimed that Dr. O'Connell's remark “shows that the Chinese organ transplant world has been truly accepted by The Transplantation Society.”

Dr. O’Connell rebutted the comments made in the CCP controlled media the next day at a news conference and said that “no one could interpret” what he said to the Chinese representatives as meaning that China's organ transplant system has been “truly accepted by The Transplantation Society.”

“So they may say that, but that’s not what the truth is,” Dr. O’Connell said.

As more and more officials who have been involved in the persecution of Falun Gong, especially those involved in forced organ harvesting, are arrested, the day that the world will learn the truth draws ever nearer.
