Three Jilin Practitioners Sent to Prison for Their Faith

October 08, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Three Dongliao County residents have been transferred to prison after being sentenced for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Liu Xiangzhuo, her husband Mr. Zhang Shunhong, and Mr. Guo Hongliang were arrested together on July 13, 2015. In the months that followed, the local authorities tried many times, without success, to get the three Falun Gong practitioners to drop their lawyers and “confess” to their alleged crimes.

Shi Haijun, the judge in charge of the case, personally visited the detention center on multiple occasions to try to sell the practitioners on this.

When their attempts failed, the local court secretly tried and sentenced all three practitioners. Ms. Liu was given 5 years, Mr. Guo 4 years, and Mr. Zhang 1.5 years in prison.

Ms. Liu immediately filed an appeal with the Liaoyuan City Intermediate Court, which quickly moved to uphold the original verdict without allowing her time to hire a lawyer or holding an open hearing.

Ms. Liu was transferred to Changchun Women’s Prison on August 18, 2016, and Mr. Zhang and Mr. Guo were moved to Jilin Second Prison three days later.
