(Minghui.org) I gave my father software to circumvent the Chinese internet censorship in 2008 when he was 63 years old. He used it to browse the overseas websites and read news that are otherwise blocked in China. He also visits Minghui.org.
He has managed to visit these websites even when the Chinese government restricted internet access more and more. Other people needed to upgrade their software, but he did not.
He lost his hearing at the age of 30 due to a medical accident. He did not know how to use computers before, and no one ever taught him. But now, in his 70s, he skillfully surfs the web, downloads files safely, and copies DVDs.
He was born in a village in Shandong Province in the 1940s. He was smart and hardworking, and his family had high expectations for him. He joined the army, worked hard, and nearly lost his life. He was transferred to work in the petroleum industry later. He worked as hard as before.
When he was in his 20s, his only son was murdered by a neighbor. His company director defended the murderer. In his 30s, he was diagnosed incorrectly, took the wrong medication, and lost his hearing. Even so, he still worked hard for several decades until he retired.
He thought he could have a peaceful life after his retirement. However, that was not the case. I worked in a hospital after I graduated from college. In less than one year, I was fired because I practice Falun Gong. My father was shocked and cried. He knew I was a good person and did a good job. Why was I treated like this?
He could not understand what was going on until he broke through the communist regime's internet blockade and realized that he had been misled by the regime's propaganda attacking Falun Gong.
My father learned more by surfing the internet and began to tell people about Falun Gong and the persecution. After he shut down his computer every day, he talked to retirees in the recreation room in his residential area. They admired his knowledge.
He could write Chinese characters very well, so he wrote “Falun Gong is good” and “Bring Jiang, Luo, Liu and Zhou to Justice” on the walls and power poles. When some of these messages were erased, he wrote them again.
The Minghui website publishes many reports about the persecution. He wrote letters to the perpetrators and sent them to different areas in the city.
“I want to let the persecutors know that people in different areas know what they have done,” he said.
When the Minghui website published a persecution case in his residential area, he noticed that the perpetrator was one of his former colleagues. He worried about him and spent several days to write a letter to him, asking him to stop participating in the persecution. He mailed this letter in a faraway area. When he found out that his colleague did not receive it, he wrote another.
When he went to visit relatives in different places, he prepared letters in advance and mailed them in different places.
My sister worked in the Union Department, and her husband worked in the Discipline Inspection Department in the petroleum industry. They worked for the Chinese Communist Party's propaganda machine and were heavily poisoned. When the persecution of Falun Gong started, they supported the Party and refused to listen to the facts about Falun Gong.
My father worried about them. He brought Falun Gong pamphlets to them every time he went to see them. They did not read them. My mother and I, with my father's help, tried to persuade them to withdraw from the Party. My sister agreed reluctantly, while her husband did not. My aunt also asked him to quit the CCP, but he still did not agree. When he saw Falun Gong pamphlets in the corridors in his building, he assumed my mother put them there and got angry with her.
My father wrote a letter and asked my mother to pass the letter to my brother-in-law, who became furious when he received the letter. He replied that they lived in a high-end apartment, owned expensive cars, and lived very well–all of which he said were given to him by the Party.
My father felt very sad when he read the letter. I had a sense of foreboding, and soon after my brother-in-law died of an illness in his 40s. My sister and their son were in another city and not at his bedside when he died.
My father introduced the anti-censorship software to a relative of my brother-in-law and chatted with him about the news that he could not learn in China.
One of my uncles was in his 80s and a Communist Party official. He was poisoned by the Party's propaganda. When my parents visited him and tried to persuade him to withdraw from the Party, he cursed my father even though they had not seen each other for ages.
My father sent him a letter after he returned home.
My grandmother was a Communist Party cadre and committed many wrong deeds. She suffered from a mental illness. My father's three brothers committed suicide in their 30s and 40s. I believe my grandmother's wrong deeds brought retribution to her sons.
However, I believe my father's fate was fundamentally changed because he chose to support Falun Gong. He is in his 70s and healthy. He traveled and has even climbed to the top of Mount Tai.
Master Li said,
“When one person obtains the Fa, the whole family will benefit.” (“Teaching the Fa and Answering Questions in Jinan” in Zhuan Falun Fajie - The Law of Zhuan Falun Explained)
“I will benefit because two people in my family practice Falun Gong,” he said.
He sent a greeting card to Master Li, the founder of Falun Gong, via the Minghui website this Chinese New Year.
“My wife and our daughter have practiced Falun Gong for over 10 years,” he said on his greeting card. “They have benefited, and I have benefited as well. Thank you, Master Li. I sincerely hope that I can see you once in my lifetime. I am looking forward to the end of the persecution. I hope all Falun Gong practitioners will live a good life.”
