(Minghui.org) A woman from Shandong Province was sentenced to three years in prison for hanging a banner that publicized lawsuits bringing Jiang Zemin to justice.
She was sentenced three days after a secret trial that was held on December 4, 2015, by the Huancui District Court in Weihai City, Shandong Province.
During the trial, Ms. Gao Dehua said that she had broken no laws by hanging informational banners.
She added that she was beaten by prison guards while she was held in custody. The judge said her statement was baseless, as she could not present any evidence of mistreatment.
A court guard grabbed her hand and forced her to place her fingerprint on the conviction document before the court session closed.
Although Ms. Gao hired a defense lawyer, he was not present during the trial. Her family only heard about the trial from a friend and barely made it to attend the court session before it closed.
Ms. Gao, 53, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Weihai City, Shandong Province.
She was arrested on July 27, 2015, when she hung a banner in a public place calling for Jiang Zemin to be brought to justice.
Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) head, is directly responsible to the inception and continuation of the persecution of Falun Gong. At least 200,000 victims of the persecution have already filed criminal complaints against him.
After being held in the Wendeng Detention Center for four months, Ms. Gao was emaciated and unrecognizable, in contrast to her good health before.
Her lawyer and family were denied seeing her while she was detained. When they went to see her, an officer pretended to inform her that they had come. He returned saying, “She is so confident of her innocence that she feels it's not necessary even to see her lawyer.”
