Detention and Labor Camp

Ms. Lu was detained twice and held in a forced labor camp once. Her first arrest occurred on November 4, 2000. He Shaodong, head of the security department of Longshan Mine of Kun Steel Inc., went to her house and took her to the security department.

She was interrogated for two days along with another practitioner. They were both held for a month in the Kunming 2nd Detention Center before being transferred back to the security department and detained for another month.

They were forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong. Before their release they were pressured to write a guarantee statement, stating that they would never practice Falun Gong again.

Ms. Lu's second arrest took place on October 22, 2004, just as she arrived at work. Domestic Security Division officer Shi Yi and his colleagues showed her a search warrant and took her back to her home. When she refused to open the door, they kicked it open and searched the house, confiscating Master Li Hongzhi's photo and Falun Gong materials.

She was detained at the Anning Detention Center for one month before being sentenced to two years. She was released from the Yunnan Women's Forced Labor Camp on July 16, 2006.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the 610 Office, on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
