German Media Spotlights Falun Gong Practitioner's Plight During Shanghai Mayor's Visit

June 13, 2015 |   By Minghui correspondent Xue Li

(Minghui.org) German radio station NDR 90.3 aired an interview with Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yake Zhou on June 2, 2015.

The interview coincided with the attendance of Shanghai mayor Han Zheng at the Shanghai-Hamburg Business Forum held in Hamburg, Germany.

Ms. Zhou talked about how her mother-in-law, Ms. Ye Julan, had been arrested at her home in December 2014 and sentenced to three years in prison by the Putuo District Court in Shanghai on May 15, 2015.

Ms. Julan's “crime?” She practices Falun Gong, a popular spiritual practice that consists of five gentle exercises and adherence to the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance in one's daily life.

Reporters from Hamburg newspapers Morgenpost and Wochenblatt interviewed Ms. Zhou after Ms. Ye was arrested. She explained how her mother-in-law had completely regained her health shortly after she took up the practice of Falun Gong.

Ms. Zhou also expressed concern that, as a prisoner of the state, Ms. Ye could easily fall victim to China's illegal live organ harvesting scheme.

Background

Ms. Ye Julan, a former engineer at the Hunan Radio Broadcasting Station, lives in Shanghai. She retired at the age of 40, due to heart disease and crippling arthritis. However, shortly after taking up the practice of Falun Gong in 1998, both ailments disappeared.

When the Chinese Communist Party initiated the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Ye began distributing informational materials exposing the Chinese regime's lies and slander about the practice. She was later reported to the authorities and arrested at her home, where police found about 200 copies of Falun Gong-related materials. She was sentenced to three years in prison on May 15, 2015.
