Police Refuses to Release Falun Gong Practitioner After Case Is Dismissed

April 27, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Even though the case against Falun Gong Mr. Jia Pengfei was dropped in early April, the police still refuses to let him go.

During his family's most recent visit to the police department to demand Mr. Jia's release on April 16, they were denied entry by Wang Guodong, head of the Domestic Security Division.

Relenting to their repeated demands, Wang finally agreed to let them in, but first called the head of the local 610 Office, directors of several nearby police stations, and staff from local neighborhood committees – who all arrived before Mr. Jia's family members were allowed to enter.

Instead of dealing with Mr. Jia's family himself, Wang handed them over to the head of the 610 Office, who threatened the family with revoking their supplemental allowances and affordable housing if they continued to seek Mr. Jia's release.

Mr. Jia's family had gone to the police department to demand his release after they learned that the procuratorate had rejected his case. Wang Guodong either refused to meet with them or drove them away.

Wang told the family that Mr. Jia's case would be submitted to the procuratorate again in a few days and that his sentence had already been determined.

Mr. Jia was arrested on March 25, 2015, for practicing Falun Gong. He has been detained in Xuanhua Detention Center ever since.

Wang Guodong is also responsible for the plight of another practitioner, Ms. Mi Xiuying, who was sentenced to seven and a half years last December. Ms. Mi was arrested in May of 2014 for telling the public about the persecution of Falun Gong.
