Three Deaf-mute Women Talk and One Also Hears

April 24, 2015 |

(Minghui.org) I was arrested in the fall of 2003 and held in a dark and cold cell with four other inmates. Three of them were deaf and mute. One inmate fought with these women for a blanket. The three expressed their anger by jumping up and down and made strange noises.

I did not know sign language and just could not calm them down. Suddenly, I had an idea. I asked one of the deaf-mute women for a paper and pen, using body language. She understood and gave me a page of a newspaper and a pencil.

I wrote on the paper: “I practice Falun Dafa and follow its principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I have experienced many benefits from the practice. If you acknowledge that Falun Dafa is good, and be kind to others, you will also benefit from Dafa.”

The deaf-mute inmate seemed to understand. She signed to the other two to stop fighting.

I recited poems from Hong Yin, a book by the founder of Falun Dafa, from memory and then wrote the poems down for them. They learned to recite Hong Yin in their mind and do the Falun Dafa exercises. They also protected me when I practiced the exercises. Seven days later, they started to talk although the sound was not clear, but at least they could talk.

One day, the inmate who had the fight with the three deaf-mute women was sick. She asked the guard for warm water, who refused and said “this is not your home.” One of the deaf-mute inmates stepped to the small opening on the door and said, “We want warm water!” The guard was shocked. She fetched a pot of warm water and said, “If you say one sentence, I will give you one cup of warm water.” She said several sentences and got the pot of warm water.

The news that ”the deaf-mute women could talk” spread quickly. Before dark, several guards visited them. I told the guards: “They are blessed for believing in Falun Dafa.”

One of the deaf-mute inmates heard a sound when a small pot fell to the ground. She was moved and in tears.

The story of these women that suddenly could talk spread throughout the detention center.
