I Don't Have to Worry about My Daughter

March 09, 2015 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in Hebei Province

(Minghui.org) I have never had to worry about my daughter—whether she was in high school, college, or now.

Because she practices Falun Gong and knows right from wrong, my heart can be at ease.

Capable, Beautiful Practitioner

My daughter was accepted to a college in southern China, far from where we live. A colleague warned me about the prevalence of drugs and suggested that I speak with my daughter. “Thank you for your concern,” I told my colleague, “but she knows what to do.”

“Your daughter is so beautiful,” a friend told me. “How can you let her go so far away? Aren't you worried? A lot of college students live with their boyfriends.”

“Don't worry—she's fine,” I said. “She knows how to conduct herself and follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”

She has stayed honest in tempting situations. For example, many of her classmates bought answers to pass their English-level certification tests, but she did not.

Sometimes, she had conflicts with her roommates, but she was able to take a step back amid the conflicts because she practices Falun Gong. She stayed considerate, gained their trust, and they became good friends.

She found employment at a local private enterprise after graduation. To find a job that gave her time to practice Falun Gong and share information about the persecution with others was more important to her than having a high salary.

Background

My daughter and I went to Beijing after the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999 to petition the central government. We were arrested at the National Appeals Office, then shoved into a truck by armed police and taken to a nearby stadium along with several thousand other practitioners. During that time, we recited poems from Hong Yin, written by Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong.

I was sent to a forced labor camp at the end of 2000. My daughter still maintained good grades during the years that I was detained, and she was preparing for high school admission when I returned.

She studied the literature written by Mr. Li Hongzhi and had the principles of Falun Gong to serve as her moral compass. She was admitted to a good high school without resorting the to the all-too-common practice of bribery.
