My Kindness Changed Street Thugs

March 24, 2015 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) As I drove my taxi one day, two people hailed me. From their looks, I could tell they were street ruffians, so I did not want to pick them up.

Then I remembered that, as a Falun Dafa practitioner, I should not ignore them—they too needed to be saved. I stopped and asked where they were headed. They told me the neighborhood where they wanted to go to and climbed in; they were not the least bit friendly.

Soon after we got going, one of them spoke up and said that they had no intention of paying me, and that they never paid for taxi rides. I said it was okay, and that I would still drive them. I started to tell them that it was dishonest to engage a service they had no intention of paying for. But before I could get the words out of my mouth, I was interrupted with a rude “Cut the crap.”

I was not afraid. Dafa gave me wisdom and courage. Master said:

“Throughout the entire course of my lectures on the Fa and cultivation practice, I have been responsible to society and practitioners. The results we have received have been good, and their impact upon the entire society has also been quite good.” (Zhuan Falun)

Dafa corrects that which is incorrect, I thought. To be responsible to them and for society, I should talk more about what is right and proper.

I sent righteous thoughts and said, "Calm down, buddy. Put yourself in my shoes. If you were driving a taxi, working hard every day to make a living, would you want your customers to refuse to pay you? Our ancestors taught us to be ‘kind, righteous, and sincere.’ Although society has been corrupted to such a terrible extent, kindness and honesty should be the standard."

I spoke with compassion, and they both listened quietly.

We arrived at their destination. The meter indicated that they owed me 12 yuan. One of them searched his pockets and found 8 yuan. "That's all I have, but I'll give it to you for the ride,” he said. “Today I'll make an exception because you talked to us about ‘Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.’”

As they climbed out of the car, I asked them to remember “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”

Afterward, I thought over this whole experience. I realized that I must still have the attachment of fear because I did not tell them "Falun Dafa is good." I only told them the principles for a human being and did not explain more about Falun Dafa. I really regretted my omission. Since then, whenever I talk to others about Falun Dafa, I always make sure I say "Falun Dafa is good!"

Making Good Each Time

Another time, I struck up a conversation with a passenger and talked about the current corruption of society and the communist regime's persecutioion of Falun Dafa.

I talked to him about the healing power of Dafa and how withdrawing his membership in the Chinese Communist Party would give him a better future. Halfway through, he announced, "I'm with the 610 Office."

I sent forth righteous thoughts in my mind and was not afraid. "Those who work in the 610 Office are also human beings and need to hear the truth,” I said. “Please don’t persecute Falun Dafa—for your own future.”

He said, "I know! Please pay attention to your own safety as well."

During my time driving a taxi, I have met all kinds of people and done my best to tell them about Dafa and the persecution. But I sometimes still have the mentality of being selective about who I decide to pick up. I have a tendency to explain the facts only to people that I think are good and will accept what I say. This is an attachment that I need to eliminate through my cultivation.
