Saving People While Maintaining Good Grades at School

March 17, 2015 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) I started practicing Falun Dafa in 1997. When I went away to college in 2003, I made sure that I didn't slack off in studying the Falun Dafa teachings and saving sentient beings.

With Teacher’s help, I was able to produce materials at home to tell people about the persecution of Dafa by the Chinese Communist Party. I helped many people withdraw from the Party. At the same time, I maintained good grades, and my classmates voted for me for the “Excellent Student” and “Excellent Student Service” awards.

The following are some of my cultivation experiences from when I was in college.

Making Informational Materials

At first, there were only a few Dafa material production sites in our area. Whenever we received one of Teacher’s new articles, we passed it around, and each of us copied it by hand.

When the Minghui website suggested that we create more such sites, I thought that I should do it at home. But I faced both financial and technical challenges: my family could barely make ends meet, and I knew nothing about computers.

However, I knew it was the right thing to do, so I worked at getting rid of my negative thoughts and fear.

Things happened as they were supposed to. My brother-in-law decided to replace his computer and gave me his old one. It had very little memory, and its CD-ROM drives worked only some of the time. But it was the right place for me to start.

I bought a used printer, but it was really slow. Then I asked myself, “You bought yourself a new mobile phone, so why did you buy a used item for Dafa work?” I returned the printer and was very careful about what I spent every day. I was able to save enough money to buy a new printer.

Now I had a computer and a printer–how should I get started? Again, things fell into place naturally. I received a CD containing flyers and pamphlets with Dafa information and software for circumventing censorship, which allowed me to access Dafa websites.

Soon, I printed a beautiful flyer for the first time!

I could also print Teacher’s new articles. Since I didn’t have Internet access, I typed out the article and then printed it. I was a slow typist, so I learned to speed type. But still it took time. I went to an Internet café and searched for a better way: I bought a scanner that could automatically convert the scanned image into computer text.

The Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party was published and presented me with a new challenge: it was too much for the scanner to handle. Teacher gave me a hint: use a USB drive! I went to an Internet café, bypassed the firewall that blocked access to overseas websites, and downloaded the electronic version of the book.

The next challenge was printing. At first, I used the manufacturer’s brand of ink. Each cartridge cost over 100 yuan and didn't last long. My family couldn't afford that. Teacher gave me another hint: use a replacement ink cartridge and refill it as needed. That allowed me to print the Nine Commentaries at five yuan per copy.

Assembling the book was another challenge. It was so thick that a regular stapler couldn’t handle it. I hammered a pin through the paper stack, pulled it through and then pushed a long staple through the hole. That was how my mother and I made Nine Commentaries booklets.

We needed funds to run our material production site. The good thing was that I got a scholarship every year to go to college. I spent it all on our site. Mother also put in some from time to time, and we had enough. Some practitioners wanted to donate money to us, but we didn’t accept any.

My family’s financial situation improved over time. My parents found jobs, and their salaries gradually increased. I felt that Teacher had provided us a better environment in which to cultivate and produce Dafa materials.

Tribulations

While producing Dafa materials, I also experienced xinxing tribulations.

I was preparing for the graduate school exam in 2007 and had a heavy workload. At that time, I felt attachments to fame, competition, and lust tugging at me. Thoughts kept popping up in my mind: “How disgraceful would it be if I can't make it into a graduate school?” “This person has finished a lot of reviews ahead of me; that person can solve all the problems; am I stupid? Why am I so slow?” “That person was not nice to me.” “Oh, that girl is so pretty.”

Plus, I had a hard time remembering things, made careless mistakes, and couldn't seem to study effectively. I knew it was interference, so I kept sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate them and kept improving my xinxing.

I also kept reminding myself, “Dafa is the most important thing in the world. What Teacher says is what really counts.”

Putting Dafa First

Whenever I ran into a time conflict between saving people and studying, I chose to save people. At that time, my classmates were all studying at school. I would instead go home to print truth-clarification materials, bring them to school, and leave them in their desks. Even at two weeks before the exam, I still downloaded Minghui Weekly and printed copies for other practitioners.

I got up at 4 a.m. to do the exercises and went home to study the Fa on the weekends. I spent at least two hours on Fa-study each time.

Also, I started memorizing the Fa. It was very powerful. I memorized Lecture Two of Zhuan Falun first. I felt an energy field around me, and the evil stayed away from me.

When I talked to someone about withdrawing from the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated organizations, the person would agree right away. My classmates called me “the number one person in China to [help people] withdraw from the CCP.”

Once, two students from another class came to our dorm for something, and my roommate said, “Oh, you're here. Quit the Party.” I helped them with only a few words.

Another time, my roommate asked me about Dafa. I explained it to him and gave him the software to circumvent the government's firewall. He went online and started to read about Dafa. I was overjoyed and had an attachment to pursuing results. Suddenly, he lost the Internet connection. I kept sending forth the righteous thoughts and looked within to find my attachments. I said to Teacher in my mind, “I was wrong. I should not be overjoyed. I should just do what I should do calmly.”

Then I felt a large Falun with strong energy rotating in the room. I asked my roommate to try again. It worked! I went to sleep and left him to continue reading about Dafa and the persecution.

In time, I felt that to save more people, distributing truth-clarification materials and talking to people in person were not enough. We needed to do more. After my parents' financial situation improved, I bought a new computer and a new printer, and set up a broadband connection at home. I also learned to use email, paper currency with messages, and recorded phone messages to tell people about the persecution. I was able to send out over 100,000 messages in just a few months.
