Tianjin Authorities Dangle Plea Bargain Deal, Only to Sentence Man to 7.5 Years

March 11, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Tianjin City

(Minghui.org) After Mr. Wang Shulin was arrested from home last March, the local police, the court, procuratorate, and the 610 Office in Tianjin City kept pressuring him to admit to having done things he had never done.

They promised to drop a prison sentence if he admitted to their fabricated evidence against him. Though Mr. Wang knew it is his constitutional right to practice Falun Gong and to spread information about the practice, he eventually admitted non-existent “guilt” thinking about his sick wife who remained hospitalized at the time.

As soon as the court secured Mr. Wang's “confession,” it sentenced him to seven-and-a-half years in prison.

When confronted with Mr. Wang's family, the police played the deceit trick again. They claimed that Mr. Wang probably would have been given at least 11 years had they not withheld certain evidence from the court.

The police further threatened his wife that she herself was not completely off the hook yet. They said that they had planned to arrest her with her husband on March 10, 2014, but “released her on bail” given her health condition.

Mr. Wang's lawyers met with him at the Binhaixin District's First Detention Center on February 9, 2015 and are preparing for his appeal.
