(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Huiqun is a Falun Gong practitioner from Yueyang City, Hunan Province. She was arrested by local police in her home on May 15, 2015, and threatened with three years of imprisonment unless she gave up Falun Gong.

Agents from the Huarong Police Department and the Huarong Domestic Security Division had investigated Ms. Liu for six months, and discovered that she practiced Falun Gong.

The agents then heard that the family had watched a Shen Yun Performing Arts DVD on May 15, 2015. They went to the home, but did not identify themselves as police officers. They claimed that they wanted to check on the household registration. They entered and found the Shen Yun DVD on top of the television set.

The agents called in a dozen more agents and ransacked the house. They confiscated a laptop computer, a desktop computer, a cell phone, and other personal belongings, altogether valuing over 7,000 yuan.

The agents hit Ms. Liu’s 70-year-old father on the back of his neck and kept her husband from moving in his wheelchair. She was arrested and taken to the Ma’an Police Station, where she was detained for 28 hours.

During the interrogation, the police demanded that she disclose who had given her the DVD. She was then put in a room where the lights were left on for the entire night to attract mosquitoes.

Ms. Liu’s entire family stood outside and protested her arrest. Ji Jun, an official, forced her husband and sister to promise that she would no longer practice Falun Gong, as a condition for her release. An officer also threatened to sentence her to a three-year prison term if she continued practicing.

The police continued harassing Ms. Liu’s family, and even harassed her neighbor. The entire family left their home to avoid further persecution.

Background

Ms. Liu began to practice Falun Gong in 2010 and benefited greatly. She lived by Falun Gong principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She apologized to her mother-in-law and sister-in-law for any wrong-doing she had committed before she began practicing Falun Gong.

She was hit by a car and thrown several meters in 2011. She got up, told the driver that he could leave because she was fine, and that she was a Falun Gong practitioner.
