66-Year-Old Falun Gong Practitioner Beaten and Left Stranded on a Mountain

Oct. 10, 2015 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in Yunnan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Zhigui was illegally arrested and assaulted by the police for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in a village on April 7, 2015. She was then dragged to the middle of the mountain and left there in the rain.

Ms. Sun, 66, was a retired employee of the Yiliang County Training School in Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. Someone reported her to the authorities when she was distributing the materials about Falun Gong and the persecution at a mountain village in Xiaocaoba Township.

Zuo Chaojian, head of the township police station, officer Yang Peiyong and others arrested her at around 9:00 a.m. and confiscated her purse. Zuo slapped her several times: she could not hear afterwards. The police then twisted her arms behind her back and beat her until she lost consciousness.

When Ms. Sun came to, someone was kicking her in the ribs. She could not see who it was because they had covered her head with her jacket. Two officers then dragged her on the muddy, rocky road in the rain.

They later demanded that she walk because the road had become too narrow for them to continue dragging her. When Ms. Sun told them she was not able to do so because they had hit and kicked her, one of the officers said, “Who saw us hit and kick you? You can't even point out who did it.”

Zuo Chaojian also threatened to throw her over the cliff, but Ms. Sun held onto one of their legs and said they would all be held responsible if she died.

The officers had to carry her down the rest of the mountain, but they purposely dropped her several times. They eventually uncovered her face and left her stranded partway.

Ms. Sun saw that the heels of her shoes were torn off, her clothes were ripped, her feet were bleeding and her whole body was covered in mud. There were also three large bumps on her head.

Ms. Sun, soaked from the rain, could not get up and laid on the ground shaking. Yang Peiyong later returned and left after he saw that she was still alive.

Ms. Sun was able to slowly climb up the mountain during the afternoon. She arrived at Xianyang Temple on the top of the mountain after several hours. The nuns carried her inside the temple and took care of her. They told Ms. Sun that the police had stopped by the temple and told them to not help her if they saw her.

Ms. Sun made her way down the mountain the next morning using a walking stick and went to the police station. When she requested the return of her personal belongings, four officers carried her out and threw her into the street.

Ms. Sun eventually got her purse back the following day.

Prior Persecution

After the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Ms. Sun was held in a forced labor camp and sentenced to jail. Her husband feared being persecuted and divorced her.

Ms. Sun was first arrested by officers from the 610 Office of Yiliang County and the county police department on March 3, 2003, for mailing informational materials about the practice to the two departments. Her home was also ransacked.

The police sent her to Dabanqiao Forced Labor Camp where she was held for three years. Ms. Sun was released early on December 16, 2005, because of poor health.

Ms. Sun was arrested again on March 14, 2012, for distributing informational materials. She was later sentenced to three years in jail and four years of probation.

She was constantly harassed by the police and closely monitored.

How She Benefitted from the Practice

Before Ms. Sun started practicing Falun Gong, she used to suffer from many diseases that included inflammation of kidneys, rheumatism, pancreatitis, inflammation of the gall bladder, and a gynecologic disorder. She used up all of her family's savings to try to treat her kidney illness, but to no avail. The doctor informed her family to take her home and prepare for the worst.

Someone introduced Falun Gong to Ms. Sun in May 1998. In the beginning, her family member had to read the book, Zhuan Falun, to her while she laid in bed. A week later, she was able to get out of bed.

All of Ms. Sun's diseases disappeared nine months later. She was able to work again in March 1999, which she had not been able to do since 1996.
