Six Practitioners Tried at Chongqing Court

January 21, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Chongqing, China

(Minghui.org) Six Falun Gong practitioners were tried at the Qiuyang County Court in Chongqing on January 5, 2015.

The practitioners were in handcuffs and prison uniforms when they entered the courtroom. Their attorneys protested and demanded that the handcuffs be removed, and that their clients change into regular clothing. The request was approved.

The attorneys asked the practitioners to explain the meaning of Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and what it means for someone to “quit the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) and its affiliates.”

However, neither the prosecutor nor the judge allowed the practitioners to speak. The attorneys then requested that all members of the court and the prosecution be disqualified from the case on the basis of impartiality.

The practitioners were: Mr. Wang Aihua, Ms. Tian Qimei, Ms. Zhang Xianbi, Mr. Du Yangxi, Mr. Qin Aiming, and Ms. Qin Huaxian,

In the end, a deputy president of the Qiuyang County Court affirmed that all questions, including those favorable to Falun Gong, could be asked in the courtroom.

The attorneys therefore continued asking questions until 6:00 p.m. The judge asked for a continuance for January 6. The trial was essentially postponed until January 20, 2015.

Family members of the practitioners, as well as agents assigned from the Chongqing Judiciary Department, were present at the trial.
