(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lin Jiuliang was illegally arrested on July 14, 2014, for handing out Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs. When two of her relatives went to the police station and asked to see her, they were arrested and detained for 12 days.

Two Relatives Defend Falun Gong

Two of Ms. Lin's family members went to the Dongchang Police Station in Dayi County on August 4. Police station chief Huang Zhi and deputy head Zou Lei received them. When the relatives asked to see Ms. Lin’s arrest papers, the officers angrily refused to produce them, claiming that the documents had already been given to the family. But Ms. Lin's family never received any documents.

The two family members paid a second visit to the police station a week later and said that the police violated the law when they arrested Ms. Lin. They pointed out that practicing Falun Gong is legal and that freedom of belief is protected by China’s Constitution. They told the police about the amazing health improvement Ms. Lin experienced from practicing Falun Gong, and how she became a better person as a practitioner. They demanded that the police release her immediately.

One officer called the Dayi Domestic Security Division, notifying them that Ms. Lin's relatives were trying to defend a Falun Gong practitioner. An unidentified woman appeared and asked the family members questions. They repeated their claim to her.

The woman later became a “witness,” testifying against the two family members for “praising Falun Gong.”

Officers Zhang Jian, Kai Yun, and a third man from the Domestic Security Division arrived at the police station and began to interrogate Ms. Lin's relatives. After being questioned, the two women were handcuffed to their chairs. They were searched and photographed. When they were told to sign the interrogation documents, they refused.

The two women were taken to the Dayi Domestic Security Division that afternoon. They were charged with “Spreading and publicizing Falun Gong, and disrupting a place of employment” and were held for 12 days.

Ms. Lin's Arrest

Ms. Lin Jiuliang, 60, went to the Dongchang Farmers’ Market in Dayi County on July 14 to hand out Shen Yun DVDs. After a woman took a DVD, she and another woman grabbed Ms. Lin’s arms and dragged her over to a man, who made a phone call. Officers arrived and took Ms. Lin to the Dongchang Police Station.

Officers in two police cars went to Ms. Lin’s house at around 6 p.m.. Five uniformed officers and several in plainclothes searched her house. They confiscated two Falun Gong books and a number of personal belongings.

Ms. Lin was held in the Dayi Temporary Detention Center for 15 days. When her family members went to pick her up on July 28, they were told that she had been transferred to the Dayi Detention Center.
