Guangzhou Women's Prison Refuses to Release Ms. Wu Youqing on Medical Parole, Despite Precarious Condition

June 15, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wu Yongqing was illegally sentenced and sent to Guangzhou Women's Prison on February 27, 2014.

Ms. Wu was recently diagnosed with uterine fibroids and other illness symptoms. She has also lost a lot of weight in a short time. Her family requested the prison officials to release her on medical parole, but their request has not been approved.

Ms. Wu’s family received a notice from the prison hospital on April 15, 2014, saying that she had been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and moderate anemia.

On April 24, Ms. Wu’s family visited her at Guangdong Women's Prison and requested medical parole in order to seek better medical treatment elsewhere, rather than at the prison hospital.

However, their request was denied by a 610 Office director whose last name is Huang, along with four guards from the No. 1 Ward. They claimed that Ms. Wu's condition was not urgent enough to meet the requirement for medical parole.

Huang then asked the family what their opinion of Falun Gong was. The family said that the topic had nothing to do with their request. The family further asked whether this was the reason why Ms. Wu was being denied medical parole, and wondered whether she had she been singled out because she remains steadfast in her belief. Huang denied the allegation.

However, when Ms. Wu’s sister and her son met with her alone, Huang warned them not to ask whether or not she had been physically abused in prison.

The family noticed that Ms. Wu appeared to have lost at least 30 pounds. She told her family that she was on “medicine.”

After she began being persecuted, Ms. Wu's husband filed for divorce in a Gaozhou Court. It was learned that the court hearing started on June 4 at Guangdong Women's Prison.
