June 12, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Zhejiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) The Songyang County Court in Zhejiang Province sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Huafeng on April 18, 2014. Prior to the trial, the presiding judge violated court procedures and kept Mr. Li's lawyer from defending him.At the trial, armed guards were on patrol inside and outside the courtroom. The only people allowed inside the courtroom were individuals appointed by the police department and 610 Office, and Mr. Li's family members were turned away.

During the trial, the Songyang County Procuratorate made up lies about Falun Gong and framed Mr. Li. Mr. Li did his best to uphold the truth about the benefits of practicing Falun Gong and how the persecution lacks any legal basis.

Mr. Li's attorney entered a not guilty plea and submitted his written representations, but the judge refused to accept the information and did not allow him to defend his client. The attorney asked the judge to abide by proper legal procedures, but to no avail. The judge ignored Mr. Li's attorney and hastily adjourned the trial.

Family Members Suffering

Mr. Li Huafeng's father, Li Qiguo, appealed for his son's release after he was arrested and held at the Wuhan Brainwashing Center in 2013. Mr. Li Qiguo was then arrested for his attempted appeal. He then began a hunger strike, and he is now bedridden and in critical condition. However, the 610 Office in Wuxue City refuses to release him.

Mr. Li's Recent Arrest

Mr. Li, 26, is from Wuxue City, Meichuan Town, Liyuner Village. He witnessed his father recover from numerous illnesses after practicing Falun Gong. He was also struck by the practice's core teachings of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and he began the practice himself in 2012.

When Mr. Li worked in Lishui City Songyang County, he told people about the process of Falun Gong being persecuted by the communist regime. He was then followed by local police, and on July 22, 2013, they raided his home. However, he was tipped off beforehand and escaped. Still, the police arrested three of his relatives and interrogated them late into the night.

On August 29, Songyang County police went to Changchun City and joined forces with the Nanguan District Police Station in arresting Mr. Li. They then took him back to Songyang County. After Mr. Li's wife was threatened and deceived by the police and other officials, she abandoned her children and left home.

Mr. Li's mother took three of the young kids and traveled to Songyang County on different occasions in hopes of visiting her son. Instead, she and her grandchildren were only shown a picture of Mr. Li in a wooden cage.
