Mr. Kang Youyuan from Wuhan Detained for Over Three Months for His Belief

(Minghui.org) Mr. Kang Youyuan, 65, has been detained for more than three months because he practices Falun Gong. It was reported that two inmates are constantly monitoring him and forbid him from talking to others about Falun Gong.

In Poor Health and Denied Release

Mr. Kang was arrested on December 3, 2013, and his family has tried very hard to get him released. Mr. Kang was taken from the Dongxihu Lock-up Center to the Dongxihu Detention Center on December 13, 2013. Due to Mr. Kang's poor health, his family continued to go to the detention center and local police station to get him released.

More than three months have passed, but the authorities still refuse to release Mr. Kang. Instead, the authorities have increased the level of monitoring. It was reported that Mr. Kang remained steadfast in his belief and continued to meditate. Two inmates have been assigned to monitor him and they forbid him from talking to others about Falun Gong.

Further Details on Mr. Kang's Arrest and Detention

Mr. Kang was arrested when he was telling people about Falun Gong and exchanging currency notes with messages about Falun Gong on it. All his money was confiscated, and he was taken to the Wujiashan Police Station in the Dongxihu District, and then to the Dongxihu Lock-up Center on the same day.

Several days after Mr. Kang was arrested, one of his neighbors noticed he was missing and informed his family. His family started to look for him everywhere and finally found out that Mr. Kang had been detained at the Dongxihu Lock-up Center. His family went there on December 11 and requested his release. The authorities told them that they would release him the next day and there was no need for his family to come.

Mr. Kang's family worried about his health since two thirds of his stomach had been removed due to cancer. When they went to pick up Mr. Kang, the officer on duty reprimanded them, “Why did you come? We have no authority to release him. You can ask those who brought him here.” Mr. Kang's family rushed to the Wujiashan Police Station. However, Xu Hongzhe, the officer in charge, told them that Mr. Kang still talked to others about Falun Gong, so he refused to release him.

Persecution in the Past 14 Years

Mr. Kang has remained steadfast in his belief in Falun Gong for the last 14 years. He was arrested four times. He was taken to a forced brainwashing center twice, a forced labor camp twice, and a lock-up center once. He suffered from torture while being held at the detention center.

How He Benefited from Practicing Falun Gong

Mr. Kang is from Qiaotou District, Wuhan City. He used to have stomach cancer and a variety of serious illnesses. He underwent three surgeries, but continued to suffer. He began to practice Falun Gong in May 1997, and followed the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” After a period of practice, he became healthy.
