May 23, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cui Hai, 65, was in critical condition when taken to the Wuhan Women’s Prison in mid-April. Her family recently tried to visit her, but prison officials refused to let them see her. The family is worried about her.

Ms. Cui’s attorney last saw her at Ankang Hospital on January 9, 2014. She was extremely weak and she told her attorney that she had a stomachache and couldn’t keep food down since early December 2013. Her condition worsened to the point that she could only intake liquids. She was given a gastroscopy test late December.

Director Wang of Ankang Hospital told her attorney that Ms. Cui had duodenal stricture possibly caused by cancer.

Despite her condition, she was taken to the Wuhan Women’s Prison in the middle of April.

Tortured During Detention and Illegally Sentenced

Ms. Cui Hai had been detained at multiple locations including brainwashing centers, detention centers and the Ankang Hospital since her arrest in October 2012. During her detention, she was tortured, which included force-feeding and sleep deprivation.

The Jianghan District Court sentenced Ms. Cui Hai on December 20, 2013 to five years in prison on fabricated charges. Ms. Cui appealed on January 9, 2014. The Wuhan Intermediate Court upheld Jianghan District Court’s sentence early April.
