Mass Arrests of Falun Gong Practitioners in Zhuozhou City

(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners in Zhuozhou City have been illegally arrested since February 25, 2014, and had their homes ransacked by Domestic Security Division officers. Ms. Gao Chunlian, Mr. Dong Hanjie, Ms. Zhou Huiying, Ms. Cao Xiaomei, Mr. Zhang Haiyang, Ms. Yan Xiuxiang, and Mr. Wang Yun are still imprisoned.

According to sources from inside the police department, higher-up officials ordered this large-scale arrest of practitioners. It was carried out in Hebei Province and Tianjin, and many special police officers were called in to participate.

Ms. Gao Chunlian and Mr. Dong Hanjie were arrested on their way home on the evening of February 25, 2014. The police later ransacked their homes, and confiscated Falun Gong informational materials, a computer, 1,000 yuan in cash from Ms. Gao's home, and 6,000 yuan from Mr. Dong Hanjie's.

After being detained for 15 days, Ms. Gao was taken to the Baoding Detention Center where the wardens tried to fabricate charges to get her sentenced. During her detention, Yang Yugang, the chief of Domestic Security Division, force-fed her.

Ms. Gao has been persecuted many times since July 1999, for a total of seven years. Her current health condition is very poor.

Mr. Dong's whereabouts are unknown. It is not known if he was taken to the Zhuozhou Detention Center, or the Baoding Detention Center, around February 26. It was reported that the Domestic Security Division had been monitoring him and plotting his arrest for a while. Mr. Dong was also sentenced to prison many times in the past and is in poor health.

Additional Arrests and Ransacking

Ms. Zhou Huiying from Laishui County, and Mr. Liu Baozhi from Dongchengfang Town, Zhuozhou City were arrested in the courtyard of their rental homes on the evening of February 25, 2014. Their homes were ransacked and Falun Gong materials, computers, as well as more than 100,000 yuan in cash were confiscated. Mr. Liu was released that same day but Ms. Zhou was detained by the County Police Department.

The homes of Ms. Cao Xiaomei (from Zhuotong Village, Matou Town), Ms. Yan Xiuxiang (from Sunzhuang Township), Mr. Zhang Haiyang and Mr. Wang Yun (both from Baichigan Township) were ransacked at about 11:00 p.m. on February 25. Ms. Cao was detained for 15 days, and her computer, Falun Gong materials, and books were confiscated. During her detention, police interrogated and threatened her with imprisonment. Ms. Cao was taken to the Zhuozhou Detention Center on March 13.

Mr. Zhang Haiyang was detained for 15 days and his printer and books were confiscated. His whereabouts after March 13 are unknown.

Ms. Yan's Falun Gong CDs and books were confiscated, and she was taken to the Baoding Detention Center. She is facing a prison sentence.

The police confiscated Falun Gong materials and 500 yuan in cash from Mr. Wang's home. His whereabouts are unknown.

Mr. Ge Zhijun from Songlindian Town was arrested on February 26. The police confiscated Falun Gong materials, and a printer, and computer. He was detained for 15 days and released due to high blood pressure.

Mr. Shang Guanqing from the same area was also arrested, and detained for 15 days. Police confiscated about 1,000 yuan, and later extorted another 1,000 yuan from his family. His whereabouts after he was released is unclear.
