(Minghui.org) The Dongling District Court in Shenyang City held a second hearing against Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Fu on the morning of Februrary 27, 2014. The “evidence” against him was that he invited a fellow practitioner who had been forced to leave home to a meal and encouraged him to do well in his cultivation.
On the day of the hearing more than a dozen hired people patrolled both inside and outside of the courthouse, keeping watch on Mr. Chen's relatives and friends. Plainclothes police and officers from the Domestic Security Division also stood everywhere, creating a tense atmosphere.
A bailiff notified Mr. Chen's family that only two of them were allowed to be in the courtroom. Mr. Chen's wife and his elder sister went inside the courtroom.
When Mr. Chen's two defense attorneys were about to enter the courtroom, a bailiff demanded to search their bags. When the attorneys refused this unreasonable demand they were not allowed to enter the courtroom.
The judge asked Mr. Chen a few questions. Mr. Chen replied, “My lawyers are not present. I won't answer your questions.” The judge then hurriedly wrapped up the hearing, which lasted only ten minutes.
When Mr. Chen's family was celebrating his son's birthday on the evening of July 19, 2013, police broke into his house and illegally arrested him.
The Dongling District Court held the first hearing against Mr. Chen on January 21, 2014. The courthouse was patrolled and guarded by plainclothes police and bailiffs who were assigned to check people's IDs and search their bags.
The two attorneys hired by Mr. Chen's family refused to have their bags searched and told the bailiffs that what they were doing was against the law. The attorneys were not allowed to appear in court, and the judge hastily concluded the hearing in less than half an hour.
The illegal arrest of Mr. Chen has brought his family enormous pain and anxiety. They went to the relevant departments many times to ask for his release, but without any success. His ailing elderly parents-in-law also went to ask for his release. Because of the long distance they had to travel and the extreme anxiety they suffered, his father-in-law passed away a few days after they returned home.
