Ms. Wang Sufang Illegally Detained and Her Lawyers Beaten and Threatened by Police

March 07, 2014 |

(Minghui.org) Retired Fushun police officer Ms. Wang Sufang has been illegally detained for nearly three months because she clarified the facts to people about Falun Gong. The lawyers her family hired for her were beaten and threatened by police.

Ms. Wang, 64, used to suffer from all kinds of illnesses. After she started practicing Falun Gong, all her health problems disappeared and her health got better and better. She told people what she experienced and how beneficial Falun Gong is. Because of this, she has been repeatedly arrested and detained by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

She was arrested again in early December 2013 for distributing truth-clarification materials at an overpass in the Xinfu District. The police who arrested her didn't show any warrant. She was taken to the Nangou Detention Center in Fushun City. Later, the Xinfu District Procuratorate ratified her arrest.

Ms. Wang's family didn't know about her arrest until a week later. They hired attorneys Zhang Keke and Shi to seek justice for her.

Ms. Wang's Attorneys Harassed, Beaten and Threatened

Attorney Zhang Keke is from a law firm in Hubei Province. He went to Fumin Police Station on December 27, 2013 to see the case officer for more information. He told the officer that Ms. Wang's talking to people was not a crime and suggested that they withdraw their legal action against her. However, he was harassed and kicked by officer Guo Jinshi and four or five others. As a result of the attack his hand was bleeding and he had difficulty breathing. His legs were also in pain.

He was detained by police for nearly three hours with no personal freedom. Later, he lodged complaints to the Xinfu Police Department and Xinfu Procuratorate about the beating he suffered at the hands of the police. Attorney Shi is from a law firm in Handan, Hebei Province. He was also hired by Ms. Wang's family. He managed to meet with Ms. Wang at the detention center on the morning of January 16, 2014. That afternoon, he went to the Pretrial Section of the Procuratoratoe and was told by the section head that Ms. Wang's file had been returned to the Xinfu District Domestic Security Division.

He then went to the Domestic Security Division to ask for Ms. Wang's release according to the law, but was refused by He Wei, the head of the legal section. They also took his three ID cards and copied down the information.

After the Chinese New Year, both attorneys experienced unfair treatment. They were refused the official Power of Attorney forms, so that they would not be able to defend Falun Gong cases. Hebei Province Judiciary Bureau told Attorney Shi that he needed to report to them if he accepted any Falun Gong cases. The Hubei Province Judiciary Bureau also warned Attorney Zhang not to accept Falun Gong cases, otherwise they would not grant him the annual certificate of inspection (meaning his license would be suspended).
