(Minghui.org) Dr. Zhai Jinping is a physician who used to work at Taishan Nursing Home in Taian City, Shandong Province. She was sent to a forced labor camp twice, fired from her job, and had her medical license revoked, all because she practices Falun Gong. During six years in the labor camp, she was beaten, force-fed, and given unknown drugs. She was also illegally detained in a tiny, cramped cell for much of the time.
Dr. Zhai was detained on October 5, 2000, because she had a photocopy machine at home. On October 25, 2000, she was sent to a forced labor camp for three years. She was officially fired from her job on February 6, 2001.
She recited Zhuan Falun from memory and did the exercises with other Falun Gong practitioners in the labor camp. The guards beat them and shocked them with an electric baton. In the winter Dr. Zhai and Ms. Zong Ling were handcuffed to a shelf in a small, dark cell for six days and nights.
Torture re-enactment: Force-feeding
Dr. Zhai was force-fed four days after going on a hunger strike. The guards inserted a thick rubber tube into her nose to make the procedure as painful as possible, hoping she would give up.
The guard knew Dr. Zhai used to have depression before she practiced Falun Gong, so they handcuffed her to someone who was mentally ill. The patient cried, swore, and spit in her face.
She was handcuffed to a water pipe and then detained in a cell for 18 days. She was hung up from the window frame. Her body was swollen from her feet to her chest.
She was taken back to the cell 25 days later. Every morning when the Falun Gong practitioners got up to do the exercises, the guards brutally beat them. Dr. Zhai's left shoulder was injured from being shocked with an electric baton.
Prisoner Yu Xianying hit Dr. Zhai in the head with her high heeled shoe until it bled. (The guards and prison officials enticed the other prisoners to beat and monitor practitioners with promises of benefits.)
All of the detention cells had loudspeakers blaring songs that praised the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 5:30 a.m. until midnight. The noise also covered up the sounds of beatings and torture.
In September 2002 Dr. Zhai was released. She worked temporarily at her previous hospital but was terminated because of her belief. She had to work anywhere to make a living. She was followed 24 hours a day.
On November 22, 2003, she was arrested for distributing truth-clarification materials with another practitioner. Their hair was pulled out, and their wrists were injured by the handcuffs.
Torture re-enactment: Injected with unknown drugs
Dr. Zhai went on a hunger strike to protest. She was force-fed and injected with drugs that damaged her nervous system.
She was detained at the Taiyue Detention Center. She went on another hunger strike for eight days and was then released.
In March 2004, Dr. Zhai found a teaching position at a medical school. The police followed her and went to her home to arrest her again. She escaped and remained homeless for more than three months to avoid further persecution.
Dr. Zhai had to work until midnight cleaning supermarkets and hospitals. She also worked as a tutor, babysitter, assistant chef, and other temporary jobs. Before she was arrested again in 2008, she did housework for her teacher in the morning, worked as a street vendor after 6:30 p.m., washed carpets for a hotel after 9:30 p.m., and finished her work after midnight.
On July 20, 2008, Dr. Zhai's home was ransacked again. Her computer and other appliances were taken away. She was arrested and sent to a forced labor camp for three years.
She was forced to sit on a plastic stool with holes in it for 17 to 18 hours every day. Her flesh sank into the holes, and her skin cracked in a few days. She was not allowed to use the bathroom.
Her family was not allowed to visit her. Her mother went to visit her more than 20 times, but the officials did not allow her to see Ms. Zhai.
Guard Zhang Hongfen hit Dr. Zhai in the head. Prisoner Li Min made her sit on the stool and held her head down. Then other prisoners brutally hit her back until it was black and blue.
Two months later, guard Zhang Hongfen again prohibited Dr. Zhai from using the bathroom. She went on a hunger strike to protest. On the fourth day she was extremely weak. Her face and lips became pale, and she sweated profusely.
In the spring of 2010, guard Yang Xiaolin told the prisoners to be rougher on the practitioners
At 4:00 a.m. on May 13, Dr. Zhai and Ms. Miao Peihua hung a banner that said “Falun Dafa is good” in the cell. They also did the sitting exercise on their bed. Guard Zhang Hongfen kicked Dr. Zhai off her bed and stepped on her legs and ground the shoes into her legs. The skin on Dr. Zhai's legs broke right away. She went on a hunger strike again to protest.
The guards force-fed her. They used a thick plastic tube to torture her. She had severe pain on her forehead, face, and neck. Her tongue was numb right away. The guard left the feeding tube in her to torture her day and night.
After three days, she had stomach aches. She lost consciousness after another three days and had to use the washroom eight times that night. Every time she had blood in her urine. When the guard learned this the next day, they pulled out her feeding tube.
Dr. Zhai had a fever and was taken to the hospital and given an IV for three days. They still force-fed her, but with a normal soft tube. They added half-a-tablespoon of unknown white powder into the tube each time.
After the expiration of her term, she was given another 16 days. She was transferred from one cell to another cell more than 10 times. She was not allowed to use a pen and paper. Sometimes she was not even allowed to use toilet paper.
Ms. Zhai was released on August 4, 2011. A month later she had to go out to work to make a living.
She takes care of her elderly parents and a daughter in middle school. To support them, she works hard for a small salary. Her family has been living in extreme poverty.
Dr. Zhai is 48 years old. She graduated from Taishan Medical College and became a physician at Taishan Nursing Home. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from depression, arthritis, cholecystitis, functional amenorrhea, and other diseases because of her allergy to penicillin. She was hospitalized three times and in the hospital for eight months but didn't improve.
In January 1997, Ms. Zhai started practicing Falun Gong. All of her symptoms disappeared in three weeks. She went back to work in three months.
After the Chinese Communist Party started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999. Dr. Zhai was monitored, harassed, detained, and tortured. Her family members were also harassed.
