(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Qu Shumei of Dalian City was tried in a secret Ganzijing District Court trail, with judge Lou Yuzhen presiding, in April 2013. Her family was not informed. She was sentenced a six-year prison term in September.
Jiajinshan Police Station head Wang Xibin and officer Zhang Xueyin instigated officers to arrest Ms. Qu at her home on December 17, 2012. She was illegally detained in the Dalian Detention Center for ten months before being tried.
Ms. Qu Shumei, 51, had previously been detained six times and endured more than four years of imprisonment since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong. The police also confiscated more than 210,000 yuan from her, and extorted 36,000 yuan for living expenses.
In Dalian Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Qu was caged, hung by handcuffs, kicked, beaten with a wooden board, had chili powder sprayed in her eyes and private parts, had a mop inserted into her mouth and private parts, and restrained on a death bed torture device.
Ms. Qu was arrested by officers from Nansha Police Station on September 28, 2000, for posting truth-clarification materials. Officer Li Zhenxia took her to a room and closed the curtain. Three men and a woman handcuffed her hands behind her back and hit her legs. Then they pulled the handcuffs up and down so that they dug deeply into her wrists. After the skin was worn away, the police handcuffed a different area. Ms. Qu was in so much pain that she could not stand up. Her hands were seriously injured.
Several officers and local Party personnel broke into her home in July 2002, pushed her down, and handcuffed her hands behind her back. When she resisted, her child started to cry and asked the police, “What crime did my mother commit? Why are you treating her like this?” The police pushed the child away, lifted Ms. Qu into the police vehicle, and took her to Dalian Forced Labor Camp.
In the labor camp, she became covered with scabies, and blood developed in her stools. She was in critical condition.
Guards put her in an iron cage, which involved hanging her up by her arms with her legs split apart and her toes barely touching the floor. She was not allowed to close her eyes. Ms. Qu was suspended like this for two days and nights.
A guard once ordered inmates to tie her arms, waist, and one leg to a rail. While pulling one leg straight, they kicked her in the groin and beat her with a wooden board. They also twisted her breasts, tied a rope around her lower body, sprayed hot pepper powder into her eyes and bleeding genitals, and repeatedly inserted a mop into her mouth and vagina. Afterwards, Ms. Qu and another practitioner, Wu Yueju, were handcuffed to a death bed.
She had been tortured for seven months before being released in late 2003.

Ms. Qu was arrested at her home by officers from Xinghaiwan Police Station on the evening of April 19, 2004. She was first detained in the police station and then taken to Yaojia Detention Center before being sentenced to two and a half years of forced labor to be served at Dalian Forced Labor Camp.
She was held in solitary confinement for 22 days and tied to the death bed for three days and nights.
She was transferred to the Second Women's Branch in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in late October 2004. When she refused to renounce her faith, she was transferred to the First Women's Branch in April 2005.
Ms. Qu was tortured again in May 2006 because she refused to wear the prisoner's vest or do slave labor. She was released after two and a half years.
Ms. Qu's husband, Mr. Zhu Changbin, was part of the crew of the Dalian Ocean Shipping Company, and Ms. Qu was a salesperson at Zhonghua Market. When the couple started practicing Falun Dafa in 1996, their colleagues, neighbors, and friends had only praise for them.
After the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Qu was sent to a forced labor camp twice, detained six times, and endured more than four years in prison. Her husband was sentenced to 12 years in prison and remains at the First Prison in Shenyang City.
Ms. Qu went to Beijing to appeal when the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, and was detained at Xigang District Police Department in Dalian City for one month. The police extorted 36,000 yuan from her for living expenses, and she was dismissed from her job. Political and Economic head Li Tijian was the person primarily responsible for Ms. Qu's arrest.
Ms. Qu's husband, Mr. Zhu Changbin, who worked at the Dalian Ocean Shipping Company, was only 34 years old when she lost her job, and his company would not allow him to return unless he signed a guarantee statement. Mr. Zhu, however, would not give up his belief and was later sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Mr. Zhu's father is now suffering from a fatal disease and wishes only to be able to see his son before he dies.
The couple's son, who was only 15 years old when Mr. Zhu was arrested, is being cared for by Mr. Zhu's parents.
A subsequent arrest occurred on April 22, 2002, when plainclothes officers led by Yuan Zhiming from the Shahekou District Police Department in Dalian City ransacked their home and took over 100,000 yuan in cash and a bank book worth 110,000 yuan. The couple was detained at the police department for two days. The police beat and interrogated them, and didn't give them any food. They were then transferred to Dalian Detention Center.
