December 28, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jiangxi Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tan Meili was tried by Xunyang District Court of Jiujiang City on November 28, 2014. Although Chinese law confirms the defense attorney's arguments that Ms. Tan had committed no crime by believing in Falun Gong, the court convicted her and sentenced her to four and a half years of imprisonment.

Ms. Tan, around 50 years old, was arrested by officers from the Penpu Police Station of Jiujiang City on the afternoon of July 17, 2014 when she was talking to people about Falun Gong. She was detained at the Jiujiang Police Station. Her case was transferred to Xunyang District Procuratorate.

Ms. Tan Meili is a resident of Binjiang Village, Yong'an Township in Jiujiang City. She contracted polio as a young child and one of her legs became disabled. She discovered Falun Gong as an adult began practicing.

Since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, she has been arrested multiple times for belief. Both she and her husband were sentenced to three years and detained at Jiujiang City Forced Labor Camp. At the time, they had three children (the oldest a teenager) who were left at home unattended. Their farm fields became barren and the family had no source of income. In 2007, she was illegally sentenced to three years in prison and detained at Jiangxi Province Women's Prison.

In 2012, Ms. Tan was arrested three times and detained at the local detention center. Her home was ransacked and personal belongings confiscated. In September 2012, she was arrested and taken to Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp, where she was subjected to beating, sleep deprivation, hot pepper spray, and brainwashing. After a year, on August 17, 2013, she was transferred to the provincial drug rehabilitation center where she was held for three days.
