Practitioners Due for Release Taken to a Brainwashing Center

November 08, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Hong, Mr. Shi Bin, and other Falun Gong practitioners from Changchun were illegally arrested on October 15 and detained for 15 days. They were due to be released on October 30, but were taken to a Changchun City brainwashing center for further detention.

Their families stopped the van that was transporting the practitioners while it was in front of the Weizigou Detention Center and asked to see the legal documents justifying the detention of the practitioners. The police inside the van did not answer and started to beat the practitioners in the van.

Armed police arrived wearing helmets and carrying shields and rubber batons. At the sight of them, Mr. Shi Bin's child, who was with the families, started to cry. Five local police also joined in, forcing the families to the side of the road so the van could move on. The police scratched Ms. Zhang's daughter's hand in the scuffle.

The Erdao District police contacted Ms. Zhang's landlord and ordered him not to allow her to rent from him. The arrest left two children at home unattended and now facing eviction. (For details: Nine Changchun Practitioners Arrested for Distributing Calendars)

Mr. Shi conducted a hunger strike to resist the detention. He became very weak and had to be carried to the car when he was taken to the brainwashing center.

Mr. Shi, in his 30s, and his wife have a young baby less than a year old. He studied at the Academy of Medicine in Changchun, but was not allowed to graduate because of his belief in Falun Gong. He has been repeatedly detained and brutally tortured.
