(Minghui.org) I have been working on media related projects for many years. Recently, many more Chinese tourists have been visiting the city where I live, especially the airport nearby. I realized that I needed to explain the facts about Falun Gong to them face-to-face.
Over time, I have noticed great changes in the Chinese people. Many have shown their support by saying, “Falun Dafa is good,” “You’ve been working hard,” “Falun Dafa is truly amazing” etc.
A five or six-year-old boy showed up in front of me and said, “Hello, Uncle!” I asked, “Hi! May I help you?” The boy answered, “My mom asked me to say thank-you for telling us the facts.”
There are typically long baggage check-in lines in the airport. I hold up Falun Dafa informational posters in front of those in line and flip the pages so they can read the information. Many Chinese have shown their appreciation in different ways. Some smiled at me; some asked if I was tired; some said, “You’ve been working hard.” The little boy and his mother showed their appreciation in a more direct and sincere way.
Many people wait in the airport lounge before boarding the airplane back to China. It’s a great opportunity for me to clarify the truth. One day, some listened quietly, some agreed with what I said, and some expressed their own opinions.
An older gentleman was listening to me quietly. When I was about to leave, he said, “Come over here, young man. Let’s sit down and chat.” I said, “Sure. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.” He said, “Do you know the general public’s attitude towards Falun Dafa?” I answered, “Due to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda, a few years back, many Chinese people misunderstood us. Now, however, many have learned the truth about Falun Dafa after our years of efforts.”
He looked at me and said, “It seems you don’t really know what the general public is thinking. Let me ask you, what kind of government is the CCP?” I said, “It’s a dictatorship.” The gentleman said, “That’s right. Many people are sympathetic to Falun Dafa practitioners.”
He continued, “I am 85 years old. I wish you success.”
I bowed to him and said, “I wish you good health.”
Once after I explained the facts to a Chinese man, he was so happy that he said to me, “Chatting with you is the most pleasant thing I’ve done in Korea.” He even invited me to visit his hometown in China.
One day as I was holding the posters for a line of Chinese people, a man came and yelled at me. I smiled at him but kept my distance. Ignored, he left.
Afterwards another man said to me, “Young man, you’d better go home now. It’s not safe here.” “Why not?” I asked. He lowered his voice and answered, “The guy who just yelled at you is the chief of our city’s department that specializes in persecuting Falun Dafa. You must be very careful.” I smiled to him, “Thank you for your concern, but this is a free country. We practitioners would still be clarifying the truth even if Jiang Zemin came here, not to mention him.” He and the others were shocked by what I said.
Another time, a lady was very rude to me. Another tourist whom I had just talked to responded to her, “He has the freedom to believe what he chooses. You need to respect others.” When others also showed their support, that lady stopped talking.
Although her attitude wasn’t good at first, I looked at her with compassion. She also listened to what I was saying. Before she left, I said, “Maybe we have different opinions, but I still wish you a good trip.” She smiled at me. I think any misunderstanding or evilness will melt away before a practitioner's compassion.
One day I was telling people that Falun Dafa in now practiced in over 100 countries. A lady passing by said, “It’s 114 countries.” She also did Heshi (placing her two palms together in front of her chest) to me. I asked, “You are a practitioner?” She smiled at me and we greeted each other briefly. While I was holding the posters, she told people the facts about the persecution. We coordinated very well.
Another time the tourists were shocked to see the posters I was holding. They said to each other, “He is so bold; how come no one is stopping him?” The tour guide said to them, “This is very normal in Korea. People can criticize the government or even the president. It happens every day. Korea is a very free country.” Hearing this, the Chinese tourists started to read the information, as did the tour guide. It sounded simple, but what she just said might bring her a very bright future.
Our smiles, our gestures, our appearance, and our expressions all contribute to getting the truth about Falun Dafa across to them. The facts we tell them and our attitude are the most important. I would like to suggest that we dress as nicely as possible. Many of the tourists are financially secure, and they do care about people’s appearance. This is just my personal understanding for your reference.
With a wealth of knowledge, it’s very easy to communicate with all sorts of tourists, which allows one to be more effective in clarifying the truth. For example, when I talk about Korean culture with young people, they are quite interested, and it makes them feel close to me. Then I can transition to the topic of Falun Dafa naturally, and they can accept the truth easily.
When facing someone with a negative attitude, our rationality, wisdom, and compassion will melt it away. When there is misunderstanding, I say things like: “Please don’t be angry. It’s a pleasure that you can visit Korea. Your trip will be even better if we can communicate rationally.” “At your age, good health is so important. Please don’t get angry and we can work things out.” “Have you heard that people say, ‘I may disagree with you, but I respect your right to express your opinion?' I can tell that you have a wealth of knowledge. I hope that we can communicate rationally.” A few words of compassion often can calm people down, and the communications afterwards are usually pleasant.
I have felt a huge change among the Chinese tourists visiting my area in Korea in the past year. Considering the situation inside and outside of China, everything could change quickly. I need to treasure the time that is left for us. The dramatic increase in the number of the Chinese tourists is a gift to me from Master. What I can do is to put in more effort.
