Hebei Practitioner Receives Three-Year Prison Sentence After Being Sent to Forced Labor Camp in 2011

November 18, 2014 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) The court in Linzhang County sentenced Mr. Song Zhenhai (宋振海) to three years in prison in November 2014. His family has already filed an appeal.

This is not the first time Mr. Song has been incarcerated for practicing Falun Dafa. Three years ago in 2011 Mr. Song was put in a forced labor camp for 18 months for talking to people in his village about the practice.

Mr. Song, from Linzhang County, Handan City, began to practice Falun Dafa in February 2011 and in a few months his hair grew back. He had been bald for years before that.

Mr. Song was again arrested on May 25, 2014 for giving out Shen Yun DVDs. Officers from Ducunji Township Police Station confiscated the 10,000 yuan (US$ 1,600) cash he had and transferred him to the Domestic Security Division of Linzhang County Police Department.

When Mr. Song's wife, Ms. Wang Qiufen (王秋芬), went to Domestic Security to inquire about his arrest, officer Zhang Xuming (张绪明) put her in Handan City First Detention Center for almost a month.

After five months of illegal detention, on Oct. 15 the prosecutor tried Mr. Song in Linzhang County Court.

Mr. Song's attorney argued that there wasn't any law in China that bans Falun Gong and it is his client's constitutional right to practice Falun Gong. Despite not being able to refute the defense, the court found Mr. Song guilty.
