Plainclothes Officers in Unmarked Cars Pull Over and Detain Falun Gong Practitioners

November 13, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Five women from the city of Changchun were pulled over by plainclothes officers in unmarked cars on October 15, 2014. After being detained for 15 days, two of them were released, while the rest were transferred to a detention center.

Ms. Niu Yafen (牛亚芬) was driving down the street when a dark green jeep and a white Volkswagen suddenly blocked her way. When she stopped, Ms. Niu was dragged out of her car by two plainclothes officers. They pushed her to the ground, with one officer setting his knee against her ribs. She saw that her four companions were slapped in the face by other officers.

None of the officers produced identification or an arrest warrant. It was clear to the five women that they had been tracked for practicing Falun Gong, a self-cultivation system being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.

The five practitioners were taken to the Quannong Police Station, where they were interrogated by officer Liu Haiquan. After being detained for 15 days at Weizigou Detention Center, Ms. Xiao Weiwei (肖微微) and Ms. Zhao Shuyu (赵淑宇) were released.

Ms. Niu, Ms. Jin Meizi (金美子) and Ms. Zhao Pengyan (赵鹏燕) were transferred to Changchun No. 3 Detention Center on October 31 without their family's knowledge. Ms. Niu and Ms. Jin's families hired lawyers to fight for their release upon discovering their plight.

Ms. Niu's family asked officers from the Quannong Police Station to return confiscated personal items, including two cars and bank card, but they refused.
