Mother Sent to Labor Camp for Her Belief, Daughter Sentenced While Seeking Justice for Her Mother

September 08, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shanghai, China

(Minghui.org) After a Falun Gong practitioner was illegally arrested and incarcerated in a forced labor camp, her daughter attempted to rescue her by appealing to various government departments. Her attempts were not successful and she was threatened with incarceration herself. Police officers as well as other officials in various agencies within the communist regime are not afraid to abuse their power and persecute innocent people who simply believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and want to be good citizens.

The following is but one example of such a case.

On July 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., an illegal hearing was held at the Jinshan District Court in Shanghai against Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chi Yao. An attorney defended her in court, but judge Zhu Jihong still sentenced her to 3 years and 6 months in prison, according to the internal rules of the 610 Office.

Mother and Daughter Persecuted

Ms. Chi Yao sent messages on QQ (a Chinese online chatting tool) in which she complained bitterly about the illegal arrest of her mother, Ms. Ge Xiaotian, who had been taken to a forced labor camp. As a result, she was arrested on November 4, 2012 by officers from the Domestic Security Division in Jinshan District. Ms. Chi stated firmly in court that she was innocent of any crime. She also appealed her illegal sentence.

On the day of the hearing, Kong Yibo, the head of the Domestic Security Department in Jinshan District, organized a large number of special agents and police officers to be stationed around the court to monitor Falun Gong practitioners. At the same time, officials from the Jinshan District 610 Office directed the neighborhood committees to monitor any Falun Gong practitioners who attended the court hearing. Court officials controlled the number of relatives who were allowed to enter the courtroom, allowing not more than four people in. Since Ms. Chi’s family members had already reached that number, other Falun Gong practitioners could not get into the courtroom. The majority of the people present in the court were agents from the 610 Office and officers from other departments within the regime.

It was reported that Xu Yazhi, the prosecutor from the Jinshan Procuratorate, was working with officers from the Domestic Security Division to frame Ms. Chi. They fabricated “new material” in order to have her sentenced.

The Persecution of Ms. Ge Xiaotian

Ms. Chi's mother, Ms. Ge Xiaotian lives in in Jinshan District, Shanghai. She used to suffer from many illnesses and after years of seeking, could not find effective treatments. In May of 1998, she began to practice Falun Gong and thereafter, all her physical problems disappeared and she understood that she should live according to Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

In July 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong. Ms. Ge remained steadfast in her belief and told people the facts about Falun Gong, to counter the lies and defamation by the Communist regime. However, she was arrested and sent to a detention center several times. On November 17, 2000, she was arrested while she was hanging up a banner about Falun Gong and was sentenced to three years in prison. The sentence was later changed to three years of probation.

While Ms. Ge was in detention for five and a half months, officials there found out that Ms. Ge was pregnant. The doctors at the hospital refused to conduct an abortion because the pregnancy was already too far advanced. Therefore, she was released and allowed to go back home to give birth to her son.

On August 17, 2004, Ms. Ge was taken back to prison and held there until March 8, 2007. On June 17, 2008, she was arrested again, when she talked to people about Falun Gong. She was taken to a labor camp, where she was held for one year.

On April 10, 2012, Ms. Ge was arrested by officers from the Domestic Security Division, while she was clarifying the truth to people in a community in Jinshan District. Her family didn’t get any written notification about her whereabouts. Her daughter Ms. Chi Yao called Lu Yibiao, deputy head of Jinshan Domestic Security Division many times, but was denied any information. Ms. Chi stated that she would expose all the wrongdoing against her mother online, and only then did the clerk, Zhao Yong, allow the family to visit Ms. Ge.

Threatened and Persecution for Seeking Justice

On September 3, 2012, Ms. Chi visited her mother in the detention center and noticed a wound on her wrist. Her mother told her that she was forced to wear handcuffs much of the time, the longest time being for six days. When Ms. Chi photographed her mother's wrist, the officers compelled Ms. Chi to delete the pictures, and threatened her with, “You are in danger now.” Ms. Chi replied in tears, “Falun Dafa is good!” An officer yelled at her, “We will arrest you if you say that again!”

In the afternoon of November 4, 2012, Ms. Chi was arrested by officers from the Jinshan District Domestic Security Division. Later, Jiang Guoqiang and his co-workers from the Domestic Security Division ransacked Ms. Chi’s house and confiscated many items. They also went to her workplace, searched it and confiscated her personal computer. On November 30, the Jinshan District Procuratorate had Ms. Chi illegally arrested, claiming she spread “illegal information” online.

Ms. Ge is currently incarcerated in a forced labor camp. Her daughter Ms. Chi will lodge an appeal regarding her own sentencing of one and a half years.
