September 26, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Pei Wenhai, a Falun Gong practitioner from Fuzuo Township, Suning County, Hebei Province was illegally arrested while he was at the market in April. His 88-year-old mother is sick and bedridden and longs for her son's return. Local citizens have expressed their concern for the family, and 626 people have signed and fingerprinted a petition calling for Mr. Pei Wenhai's immediate release.

Currently, Mr. Pei Wenhai is facing an illegal sentencing to several years in prison. The court has made things difficult for Mr. Pei's Beijing lawyer who has been hired by the family. The court is threatening to sentence Mr. Pei to several years prison.

A Good Son Arrested

Mr. Pei Wenhai, 55 years old, is from Fuzuo Village, Fuzuo Township, Suning County. He is very kind and filial. He follows Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. His elderly mother has been sick and on bed rest for many years and she can't take care of herself. Mr. Pei takes great care of his parents, and his neighbors all know that he is a caring and dutiful son.

However, such a good person has been arrested many times by the 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division simply because he practices Falun Gong and refuses to give up his belief. Over the course of the 14-year persecution, Mr. Pei has bee illegally sentenced to four years of imprisonment and has spent two years in forced labor camps.

On April 18, 2013, Mr. Pei went to the market on business and while he was there, he talked to people about Falun Gong and the persecution. He was arrested by officers from the Shisu Township Police Station. The police confiscated over 1,000 yuan in cash that he was carrying, and took him to a detention center. Later, several agents from the Suning County Domestic Security Division, led by Pei Guangde, the village Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretary, broke into Mr. Pei's home and ransacked it. They took away all of his Dafa books, CDs and 800 yuan in cash.

Elderly Parents Traumatized

Mr. Pei is merely exercising his constitutional right to follow his belief and conduct himself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Nevertheless, he and his family have been severely persecuted by the CCP.

Now that he has been wrongfully arrested and detained, Mr. Pei cannot take care of his elderly parents or his daughter. His mother is 88 years old and has been sick. She passed out once recently and remained unconscious from over an hour. No one was at home at the time except for his elderly father, who is not in good health himself. The father is anxious and sad. He worries about his son's situation and his granddaughter's schooling.

Upon learning of the plight of Mr. Pei and his family, neighbors, friends and other local citizens expressed their concern. Over six hundred people signed and fingerprinted a petition calling for his release. The petition states that Mr. Pei has not violated any laws, and there is no reason to persecute this innocent man.

County Court Makes Trouble for Lawyer

When the Beijing lawyer hired by Mr. Pei's family went to the county court to get his client's case materials, Judge Xu Fufang was out on sick leave. Mr. Pei's lawyer was told that he had to wait until Xu Fufang came back. When the lawyer said this was not reasonable, the receiving judge became angry and claimed that the lawyer was a Falun Gong practitioner. The judge used the incident to ask the Political and Legal Committee and 610 Office to confirm the lawyer's identification. The judge also claimed that they planned to sentence Mr. Pei to several years of imprisonment.
