Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Xinzi, from Xishui County, Hubei Province, was arrested three years ago by Xishui County Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the 610 Office. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor, and beaten by guards until he was nearly blind. Shortly afterwards, he was sentenced to a seven-year prison term and sent to the No. 5 section of Hubei Shayang Prison. His mother, who is in her nineties, was so distressed by her son's imprisonment and treatment that she cried until she too almost lost her sight.
Mr. Zhang Xinzi has been running a small business related to agricultural transportation and commodity trade. He is well-known in the area for his honesty.
He used to have very good eyesight and multiple years of driving experience. During Mr. Zhang's detention in the Xishui Detention Center, his family noticed that his eyesight was deteriorating and became very concerned. On the evening of March 21, 2013, Mr. Zhang's wife received a phone call from him in prison and realized the reason for his diminishing vision. It was from being tortured and beaten in the Xishui Detention Center. Mr. Zhang told his wife that his vision was so poor now that he could not even see large objects, such as a television, directly in front of him. This tragic news really upset his family.
On June 7, 2013, Mr. Zhang's wife took a bus a long-distance to Shayang Prison. She was finally able to see her husband! However, after three years of torment in prison, her once tall-and-strong husband was now emaciated, his eyes deeply sunken. And his dark hair had turned completely white. He had aged a lot, now looking much older than his years.
Mr. Zhang told his wife that his eyesight still had not recovered, and he could not see clearly. After the beatings, it wasn't just his eyesight that had suffered. His overall health had deteriorated. His body, including his head and feet, were often numb.
Many villagers in Yangci Village, Wanggang Town, are indignant about Mr. Zhang Xinzi's treatment.
Since Mr. Zhang cultivates Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he has been kind and done many good deeds. The following account especially impressed the local villagers:
A couple on a motorcycle had an accident while speeding. Their motorcycle hit a poplar tree near a bridge. Hearing the crash, a crowd gathered. The couple on the motorcycle were injured, and their heads were bleeding. The woman had passed out, and the man lay in the street, groaning. Everyone watching was shocked, but no one made any attempt to help the injured couple. Some may have thought of it, but worried that helping might end up causing a problem. They were worried about being accused of somehow causing the accident. Mr. Zhang showed up on his tricycle, picked the couple up, and took them to the hospital. Because he acted quickly, they survived, and recovered. The couple's family was deeply grateful to Mr. Zhang when they heard about what he did.
There is a bridge with no side railings in the village near Mr. Zhang's home. There are often accidents there. When there was an accident, Mr. Zhang was always called to help. For minor injuries he took them to his own home for treatment. For anything more serious, he took them to the hospital.
This kind and generous person has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because he told people that Falun Gong is a good practice, and that the princples of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance help improve society's moral standards. He explained to people the wonders of Falun Dafa cultivation using his own personal experiences. Many people have benefited from what he has demonstrated.
Early on the morning of August 3, 2010, an officer from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of Xishui County, Hubei Province, and three 610 Office police raided the home of Mr. Zhang Xinzi (also called Zhang Xiai) in Yangci Village, Wanggang Town, and took him away. Mr. Zhang was sentenced to one year of forced labor. One year later, on June 29, 2011, the local court and Procuratorate, in collusion with the 610 Office, further sentenced Mr. Zhang to a seven-year prison term. Guo Jianli, the principal perpetrator in Mr. Zhang's case in Xishui Public Security Bureau, shouted when Mr. Zhang's wife cried and pleaded for mercy, “I want his family to become destitute! I want to ruin his family.”
Mr. Zhang's mother is 95. When Mr. Zhang was sent to the forced labor camp in 2003, his mother was frightened for him. When Mr. Zhang was sentenced to a heavy prison term and tortured in jail, his mother was inconsolable and wept every day for her son. She cried so much that her vision was affected.
Mr. Zhang's elderly mother went to visit her neighbor in June 2007. At that time, she was walking with a cane. On the way home she lost her footing and fell. Neighbors found her, told her family, and she was taken to the hospital. She had a comminuted fracture in one leg.
Because of her advanced age, the doctor was concerned that she might not recover. He wanted to operate, but knew the risk was high. Mr. Zhang's mother was not accustomed to going to a doctor or having surgery, so she insisted on going home, without any further treatment. Her family felt helpless. Before leaving the hospital they put a cast on her leg, and then Mr. Zhang took his mother home on his tricycle.
Once home and settled in, Mr. Zhang gave his mother a Falun Dafa talisman and told her that only Master could help her now. Mr. Zhang said that the accident was not by chance, that it was retribution for disrespectful remarks that she made about Falun Dafa.
A few years before when Mr. Zhang was sent to a forced labor camp, his mother, who misunderstood and resented Falun Dafa, said many disrespectful things about the practice. Although Mr. Zhang kept clarifying the truth to her with his personal experiences. He tried to tell her that Falun Dafa was a wonderful and righteous practice, and that the persecution of Falun Dafa was wrong, but his mother refused to change her opinion. After her accident and subsequent suffering, she was able to hear to what Mr. Zhang had to say and accepted the truth about Falun Dafa. She sincerely said, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” every day.
One night she told her son that her leg no longer hurt. There seemed to be a warm current going through her leg up and down. Mr. Zhang told his mother that Falun Dafa's Master had begun to take care of her. She was so excited that she pressed her palms together in front of her chest (heshi) to express her gratitude to Master. She slept well that night. She did not groan in pain like the many nights before.
After a couple weeks of saying, “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” his mother asked her son to take off the cast, and told him that she was now fully recovered. However, the rest of her family did not agree and tried to convince her not to remove the cast. They believed it was much too soon to expect her leg to have recovered.
However, she insisted, and Mr. Zhang removed the cast to reveal a miracle. Her daughter helped her put her shoes on, and she got off her bed, stood up, and walked around. She had completely recovered. Even the doctor said it was truly a miracle for a woman her age to recover from such a serious injury so quickly. Those who lived nearby witnessed this miracle and marveled at the power of Falun Gong. It was no longer any wonder why so many people believed in Falun Gong.
Mr. Zhang's mother, who re-gained her health due to Falun Dafa, is now nearly blind, because her son has been persecuted and she has cried so long and hard that she has injured her sight.
Mr. Zhang's wife has been ill and weak for a long time. His family finances are strained. His son in high school is in urgent need of money for his tuition. His second daughter is not yet married. Mr. Zhang Xinzi is the pillar of his family. They miss him, are worried for him, and want him to return home.
