(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Caixia, served eight years in prison for broadcasting videos about the persecution of Falun Gong on a local television network in Hebei Province. She was released in October 2012, but was arrested again on May 20, 2013 in Xingtai City.
During the Chinese New Year of 2004, Ms. Zhang and other practitioners successfully broadcast videos about the persecution of Falun Gong on a local television network in the cities of Xingtai and Shahe in Hebei Province. The broadcast lasted for 75 minutes in total, infuriating the authorities.
Ms. Zhang was arrested in February 2004 and was sentenced to eight years in prison. She went on a hunger strike for several months to protest the persecution. When her condition became critical, she was subjected to brutal forced feeding. However, she was able to escape from the police on December 12, 2004, prompting a large scale hunt for her.
Luo Gan, the former head of the 610 Office, ordered the local police to find Ms. Zhang within two months, otherwise the heads of the police stations would be fired. Even the head of the Shahe 610 Office, Yu Shuping, became involved in the search. Shahe police harassed practitioners and ransacked their homes in an attempt to find Ms. Zhang.
Ms. Zhang was arrested again in Handan City, Hebei, following the Chinese New Year in February 2005. The police tried to extend Ms Zhang's prison sentence to 11 years, but were unsuccessful. She was taken to Tangshan Prison and then to the Women's Prison of Hebei, where she was brutally tortured.
On September 26, 2008, Ms. Zhang was shocked with electric batons because she refused to do hard labor in the prison. Wang Yanqin, deputy head of the prison, then handcuffed her to the courtyard gate of Division 5 for the entire night. For the next two days and nights, she was handcuffed to the stairs in a workshop. Then she was locked in solitary confinement for 15 days. Ms. Zhang continued to defy the guards' orders and was put in solitary confinement again for another 15 days. The cell was cold and damp, and she was only given thin clothing to wear.
On February 1, 2009, Ms Zhang and two other practitioners refused to put on inmate identification tags, so they were handcuffed to the door in a room where all the windows were opened in the freezing cold. Wang Yanqin ordered their jackets to be taken off.
Ms. Zhang was released in October 2012, but was arrested again on May 20, 2013 in Xingtai City.
