Catching a Bicycle Theft to Tell Him about Falun Dafa

May 22, 2013 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner from China

(Minghui.org) We live in the residential annex where my wife works. One day during lunch, my wife, who was on duty at work, ran to me and said, “Our bike has been stolen. Hurry and go after him!”

I thought, “Master teaches that if something belongs to me, I won't lose it; if it doesn't belongs to me, then even if I chase after it, I still won't get it.” But then I thought maybe I would give it a shot. I got on my electric bike and went out through the gate. Which way should I go? At first there only two choices, but after a little while, there were more and more side roads. In the end, I just followed my intuition and picked one that would lead me back to my hometown. I thought, “Even if I can't catch him, I will still be able to visit my hometown.”

I started to think as I traveled. Maybe at some time I owed him, so was this a way to repay him? But this wasn't a very good way. Why couldn't it be resolved benevolently? Or maybe this was a way for him to fulfill a predestined relationship with Dafa, which meant I should tell him the facts about Dafa so that he would have a good future. I asked Master for help, “Master, please help me catch him. I want to save him.”

After passing a village, there was another fork in the road that would eventually join again. I chose the one that was a bit farther but smoother. Just before the two roads re-connected, I saw someone was riding a bike on the other one. I got to the junction a little faster and stopped right in front of him.

I waved at him, “Brother, did you get on the wrong bike?” He didn't resist and said, “I thought that this one looked like mine, so I took it.” Then he began to argue and argue, basically telling me that he didn't steal it. I thought, “I'm not so concerned about whether you stole the bike, but, rather, how I can talk to you about Dafa.”

I saw that he was a little nervous, so I tried to look more calm and friendly. I said, “Don't be afraid. I'm not trying to do anything to you. I just want to say a few things to you.” We walked to the side of the road and I said, “Do you know why I am reacting like this? I am a Falun Gong practitioner. We follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, so we always try to be good and kind to others. Have you heard of Falun Gong?” He said he had seen it on TV. I told him that what he saw on the state-run media were all staged, deceptions and lies, and that Falun Gong teaches people to be good, honest, kind, and tolerant, and it also greatly improves one's health.

I said, “Even if you just say the words 'Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,' it will be to your benefit.” At first he would only repeat the latter part, but eventually said all nine words. I also asked him about his family, and he told me that there were something wrong with his mother's legs. I told him that it might help his mother's legs if she would recite the nine words. He didn't look as nervous anymore but still looked as if he wanted to get away from me. So I walked him to the main road and again asked him to remember the nine words and find something better to do. He was thankful and said, “I can tell that you are a good person.”

When I got back home, everyone gathered around my wife and me and agreed that it was quite a miracle that I got the bike back after the thief had gotten so far away. I thought, “How could you people understand? It was Master who was helping me save people.” At that time my wife was still very afraid of my directly talking about Falun Gong, so I didn't clearly tell them.

Someone asked me why I didn't beat him up or at least take him to the police station. I said, “That's not really good for anybody to beat someone up. If I take him to the police station, that won't do any good, either; perhaps he will be fined and then steal even more. It's like growing plants: whatever seeds you put in the ground, that's what you will get in the future, good or evil.” I only said that much. Now I am a little regretful. Due to my lack of righteous thoughts, I missed a good opportunity Master gave me to save more people.
