The 610 Office of Heilongjiang Province set a quota for the number of practitioners that were to be “transformed” through brainwashing in all areas of the province in 2011.
The Political and Legal Affairs Committee, the 610 Office, and the police stations collaborated to arrest several Jiamusi Falun Gong practitioners and send them to Yichun Brainwashing Center.
Ms. Liu Guiqin, a practitioner from Jiamusi, was arrested on her way to work on August 23, 2011 and taken to the Yichun Brainwashing Center. The persecution she endured was carried out as follows:
Liu Guiqin met Zhang Huifeng, the Director of the Qianjing District Political and Legal Affairs Committee and Hao Sufan, a staff member of the Hongxia Community, on the morning of August 23, 2011. Zhang grabbed Ms. Liu by the neck saying he needed to ask her some questions. Ge Yanjun from Nangang Police Station and a driver got out of a white van, and together forced Ms. Liu into the vehicle.
Ms. Liu was taken by surprise and asked, “Where are you taking me?” They said, “To a nice hotel, for a trip.” Ms. Liu said, “I am not going, I still have kids at home who need me to take care of them, and I also need to go to work.” They said, “You can come back in a few days.”
Ms. Liu’s colleague called her at this moment and asked, “Why have you not come in to work?” Ms. Liu answered, “I've been arrested. I am in a vehicle, and I do not know where they are taking me.” The driver called out viciously, “Take away her phone! How can you still allow her to use her phone?” Ms. Liu refused to let them take away her phone.
Ms. Liu was transferred to a black sedan on the way. When she refused to get in, they pushed and cursed at her. They tore her clothes while forcing her into the vehicle.
In the vehicle, Ms. Liu recognized an agent, Mu Zhenjuan, who is a team leader from the local forced labor camp.
The moment they brought Ms. Liu to the Yichun Brainwashing Center, they started taking pictures of her.
Mu Zhenjuan monitored her at the detention center, a building that was set up to look like a hotel. Ms. Liu had a splitting headache. She had so much pain that she had to lie down on the bed and could hardly eat anything.
Wang Chunfeng used a “soft” approach to get her to comply, saying, “You are fine, just stay here a few days and then you can go home, so start to eat now.” In the afternoon, there were so-called “teachers” with the last names of Song and Wang to “transform” her. Wang continuously subjected Ms. Liu to brainwashing with Communist Party propaganda.
Ms. Liu was forced to watch video programs with propaganda attacking Falun Gong and then give “thought reports” and sign statements renouncing her belief. She lived in great torment, became depressed and missed her family very much. She was held there for 23 days.
Ms. Liu's family did not know her whereabouts when she was first arrested. When her husband brought her children with him to demand her release at the Qianjin District Political and Legal Affairs Committee, the agents claimed ignorance. When Ms. Liu’s husband discovered her whereabouts, he took his children with him again to demand her release. The Party staff threatened him, saying, “If you keep looking for her, we will arrest you as well.” Her husband did not dare to go back.
