(Minghui.org) Mr. Xia Yuanxin is a Falun Gong practitioner in his 60s. He lives in the Xihe Market area of Jinzhou District, Dalian City. On August 24, 2013, police illegally arrested him at home because he practices Falun Gong. His neighbors and friends were outraged.
One of his neighbors said: “The Chinese regime is doomed for arresting such a good man!” Others agreed. The neighbors planned to visit Mr. Xia Yuanxin in the detention center.
When the police took Mr. Xia downstairs from his home, they used clothes to cover up the handcuffs on his wrists. Mr. Xia said: “There's no need to cover them. I am in my 60s and live by Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance [the main principles of Falun Gong]. I am not ashamed by the handcuffs. You should feel ashamed for arresting me!”
Mr. Xia used to have rheumatism. As he aged, he also developed hypertension, coronary heart disease, cholecystitis and a stomach disorder. He felt pain all over his body and had to carry medicine with him all the time.
Often times, his chest hurt so much from the heart disease that he rolled around on the bed in excutiating pain. His life was in danger. His mother had died from the same condition, so his family was very worried about his health.
At a time when he felt helpless, someone told him about the health benefits of Falun Gong, and he decided to give it a try. After a period of practice, his illnesses were healed and he became very energetic. He thus continued to follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a better person.
After Mr. Xia started practicing Falun Gong, he worked very earnestly at his job. Because he always took on the tiring and dirty jobs, and never took advantage of others to get a bonus, he won the “advanced worker” award from his workplace.
One day, a client came to visit him, quietly placing 3,000 yuan on his coffee table before he left. After sending off the client, Mr. Xia found the money. He immediately called a taxi to send the money back to the client. The client was very touched.
Mr. Xia never asked for a single penny for any of his business trips. He always considered others first. His colleagues often commented that he was a very good person with great morals, and that such a person is very rare to find.
They could not believe that he got arrested. After confirming the news, they did not know what to say. “What bad deed could Xia Yuanxin have possibly done? Why arrest such a person? What kind of a society is this?!” they exclaimed in disbelief.
Mr. Xia's wife, Ms. Su Zhengqiu, is in poor health. Prior to his arrest, Mr. Xia did all of the housework, including the grocery shopping, cooking and laundry. He is well-known as a good husband among his neighbors.
When his parents were ill, until they passed away, he took care of them as well. His parents left him their house as compensation, but Mr. Xia's older brother insisted on living there. Mr. Xia and his wife gave the house to his brother without asking for a single penny; nor did they utter a single word of complaint.
Mr. Xia respects his parents-in-law very much, which is also well known in the community. When his parents-in-law had friends or relatives visit, he always cooked for them. Sometimes he was so busy that he did not have time to eat himself.
Mr. Xia's mother-in-law is 94 years old. After hearing about his arrest, the old lady was so worried that she could not eat. “My best son-in-law was arrested. They must have arrested the wrong person,” she said.
The old lady asked her family to take her to the Guangming Police Station to get Mr. Xia back.
After hearing about his arrest, Mr. Xia's brother-in-law kept saying, “They are killing innocent people! They are killing innocent people!”
After Mr. Xia started to practice Falun Gong in 2004, he always practiced the Falun Gong exercises at home. Not many of his neighbors knew about it, but they all knew him to be a very kind person. Especially in China, where people nowadays often lack a sense of morality, this kind of person is very rare.
Mr. Xia's neighbors always liked to ask him for help, from changing water pipes to fixing appliances. He never refused their requests and always helped wholeheartedly.
One day, it started to rain. A young man who lived across from Mr. Xia fell asleep after getting drunk. His quilts were left outside. Mr. Xia immediately went over, collected the quilts and returned them to the man's room. He also volunteered to clean up the hallway and wash the stairs.
On another occasion, Mr. Xia noticed that the brick paving at the entrance of the building was broken. He spent two days repairing the entrance to make it more convenient for the residents to enter and exit. The flower bed in front of the building was also full of weeds, so he removed the weeds and planted flowers there.
All of the neighbors thanked him.
There is a saying in China: “A distant relative is not as good as a close neighbor.” Losing such a good neighbor, people have felt sympathetic toward Mr. Xia's family. They said they would help take care of his daughter while he is not home.
