Pingdu Court in Shandong Province Sentences Mr. Wang Guangwei in Secret Court Session

September 27, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Guangwei is a Falun Gong practitioner from Wangjiazhuang Village, Landi Town, Pingdu City, Shandong Province. On March 14, 2012, he was reported by village staff member Qiao Xianpeng for posting banners about the persecution of Falun Gong, and was then arrested by Landi police officer Liu Naiqiang and other un-identified officers. The police then ransacked his home. Mr. Wang has been detained in Pingdu Detention Center, and is forced to do hard labor every day.

On July 13, the Pingdu City Procuratorate charged Mr. Wang with “Using a cult organization to prevent the implementation of national laws,” and initiated the prosecution to the court. Pingdu Court was scheduled for a session on July 27, 2012.

Mr. Wang's family hired Beijing lawyers Dong Qianyong and Lan Zhixue to defend Mr. Wang. His family and friends also sent invitation letters to the local people to ask them to attend the court session. However, the 610 Office threatened everyone that anyone who went to the court session would be arrested. The Pingdu Court notified the two lawyers that the court session was to be postponed.

On August 15, Lawyer Dong Qianyong again went to the court to ask for the date of the court session. Liu Jianguo, the judge for this case, would not give him a clear answer, and asked, "A Falun Gong case needs two lawyers?”

On September 3, Pingdu Court secretly opened a court session without notifying the two lawyers and sentenced Ms. Wang to a four and a half year term.
