Two Women from Beijing Persecuted Because They Distributed Shen Yun DVDs

July 11, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Beijing

(Minghui.org) Ms. Bian Xinzhong and Ms. Du Xiangzhen from Shijingshan District, Beijing were illegally arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities because they distributed DVDs of Shen Yun Performing Arts, a show that promotes traditional Chinese culture. The two women are currently detained in the detention center of Shijingshan Police Department.

On the afternoon of May 19, 2012, Ms. Bian Xinzhong and Ms. Du Xiangzhen were reported to police while distributing Shen Yun DVDs. Policeman Ren from the Shijiangshanlu Police Station took them into custody and sent them to the Bajiao Police Station in Shijingshan. Near 10 p.m. that night, officers from the Bajiao Police Station went to ransack their homes. The following day at 11 p.m. the two practitioners were transferred to the detention center of Shijingshan Police Department. The police department has issued administrative detention letters to their families.

Ms. Bian Xinzhong, 63 years old, was a welder at the Installation Company of China Shougang Group. She lives at Moshikou, Shijingshan District, Beijing. She used to suffer from heart disease and a severe gynecological disease. She even had difficulty walking, and because of her illnesses, she displayed a bad temper. After practicing Falun Gong, her illnesses disappeared and she became optimistic and cheerful. She brought her father and mother-in-law into her home when they were elderly and cared for them until they passed away. She is always willing to offer help and is often praised by her neighbors.

Ms. Bian Xinzhong was sent to the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp in 2001, where she was detained for about two years. In 2005, she was taken to a brainwashing center by the Moshikou Neighboring Committee. After Ms. Bian was taken to the brainwashing center, her husband's condition grew worse. Her husband suffers from Parkinson's disease, and the stress of the situation caused it to progress. He could no longer walk, often needed bed rest and depended on others to care for him.

Now Ms. Bian's husband is always sad, cries her name, and silently sheds tears all day long. Her son cannot work regularly as he must take care of his father. He keeps consoling and comforting his father because he fears he is suicidal. Ms. Bian's family has hired an attorney and submitted the attorney approval request to the Shijingshan Judicial Bureau. The bureau said they could not handle this issue and told Ms. Bian's family to submit the attorney approval request to the upper Beijing Judicial Bureau. But the Beijing Judicial Bureau has ignored her case.

Ms. Du Xiangzhen, 63 years old, worked in the day care of China Shougang Group. She lives at Jinding Street, Shijingshan District. She used to suffer from Meniere's disease, until she started to practice Falun Dafa in 1996. She then became healthy and happy.

On July 20, 1999, she went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for justice for Falun Gong; afterward she was arrested. She did not disclose her name or address. The police forcibly sent her to a rural area in Northeast China. It was winter and very cold. The police removed her warm outer clothes and demanded her name and address. They tried to force her to tear up pictures of Master Li Hongzhi, founder of Falun Dafa. She did not do as they demanded but instead covered the photo with the palm of her hands. Two policemen tried to separate her hands but could not. They then slapped her face with their shoes. Her ear drum was perforated from the blow and to this day she cannot hear with that ear.

Later, one of the policemen was to take her to another place. He took her to his home before leaving. His wife saw that Ms. Du was not dressed properly for the cold weather and that she had been badly beaten. She took pity on her and found a coat for Ms. Du. Then the policeman's wife let her escape from the house when her husband was not watching. Ms. Du walked away quickly but was later found on a train, and arrested again. Ms. Du was finally escorted back to Beijing and later released.

After being released, her family members pressured her to give up Falun Dafa. They cursed and beat her. They begged her and would not give her any money, just provided clothes and food. She would not give up her beliefs. Finally, her family let up on their control and gave her a little allowance for living expenses. She would only allow herself one meal per day and saved the money for producing Falun Gong materials.

Shen Yun tours outside of China are very well received. In Taiwan, hundreds of people went to the airports to welcome the performers of Shen Yun Performing Arts. However, in Beijing, China, these women were arrested and detained for simply spreading word about a show on traditional Chinese culture. We ask everyone to please offer a hand to uphold justice and help these two women go free.
