(Minghui.org) On April 25, 1999, more than ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners in China went to Zhongnanhai in Beijing to appeal peacefully. A few months later, Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started their brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. At the beginning, it was horrible and people did not know what to do. However, there were still many ordinary people with compassion who volunteered to protect Falun Gong practitioners.
In 1997, there was a female practitioner, Lee, at a company in southern Guangdong Province. She worked very hard and liked to help others. After work, she did the exercises in front of the dorm, which attracted many employees to learn the exercises as well. Everyone agreed that the best people, and also the healthiest employees, in the company were Falun Gong practitioners.
After July 20, 1999, when the persecution started, all media, including newspapers and television stations, started to spread slander about Falun Gong that was much more vile than what the CCP had done during previous suppression movements. The next day, the boss talked to Lee and told her to be careful and that the company would protect her. Ms. Xu, Lee's colleague, worked at the company's branch in Hong Kong. She said, “I have heard all the things about Falun Gong. The persecution will not last long. We all support you!”
One day, when Lee was at a party in the park with her colleagues, the police showed up and illegally arrested her. The boss asked his friend to help rescue Lee. He was told that if Lee were a criminal, there would be ways to get her released, but that this was not the case for Falun Gong practitioners. That made us all concerned about Lee's safety.
When Lee was held in a detention center, the police were ordered to ransack her dorm. Zhang, the dorm security guard, refused to allow the officers into the dorm by saying that the key was lost, so the police had to leave.
Along with other detained practitioners, Lee went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She was released after 15 days. We were all happy that she returned to our company. Ms. Fu from the purchasing department held her thumbs up and said to Lee, “Keep up what you are doing. I will also practice Falun Gong in the future.”
To avoid harassment from the police, the boss announced that Lee would be promoted to a department director in another city. Thinking that her packages might be checked at the train station, the company officials arranged for a car to transport all of her Falun Gong books to her new apartment.
In the following years, the persecution escalated. Lee lost contact with the company until 2005, when she was released from prison. Sales Director Tang was very happy to get a call from her. He said to Lee, “We all miss you very much! Our boss has got a new policy for recruiting, which is that we love to have Falun Gong practitioners!”
Later on, many colleagues learned the facts about Falun Gong from Lee and agreed to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. Lee was very happy that her colleagues would have a good future.
Many stories like this have occurred in mainland China.
