The Persecution at Gansu Province Women's Forced Labor Camp

March 24, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Gansu Province, China

(Minghui.org) Currently, there are five Falun Gong practitioners still illegally detained in the Gansu Province Women's Forced Labor Camp, located at Liugou River, Heping Town, Yuzhong County, Lanzhou City.

These five practitioners are: Ms. Zeng Yumei, 56, from Lanzhou City, a retired chief procurator from the Gansu Province Procuratorate; Ms. Jin Yijun, 38, from Qilihe District, Lanzhou City, employee of a law firm in Lanzhou City; Ms. Qi Lijun, 61, from Lanzhou City, a retired employee from the Health Products Branch of Gansu Province Medicine Export/Import Company;Ms. Chang Xiuling, 48, from Qinbaling First Group Family Housing Block, Xifeng District, Qingyang City; and Ms. Li Yemin, 50, from Zhangye City.

Ms. Chang Xiuling's husband, Liu Zhiring, used to be a teacher at Tuanjie Elementary School in Xifeng District. He was tortured to death in 2005 by Tianshui City Third Prison, because he refused to renounce Falun Gong.

Practitioners in the Gansu Province Women's Forced Labor Camp are forced to undergo brainwashing sessions when not subjected to forced labor. They are forced to watch videos that slander Falun Gong, which often causes practitioners to have headaches and feel dizzy. Engaged in the persecution of practitioners are guards and prisoners, including criminals, drug addicts and prostitutes who often curse Falun Gong and its founder.

Two prisoners are assigned to closely monitor each practitioner. The guards often force practitioners to stand for a long time, and the assigned prisoners also have to stand with each practitioner as a form of punishment, and as a method to incite hatred toward practitioners. When some prisoners could not stand that long, the guards blamed the practitioners. Practitioners have no freedom or privacy, with prisoners following them even to the restroom. Under this relentless pressure, the guards try with all their might to shake practitioners' firm faith.

Falun Gong practitioners are also forced to eat the leftovers from the guards and prisoners. However, nothing can force them to write the three statements to renounce their belief.

Ms. Zeng Yumei is the current focus of intensified brainwashing because of her previous work position. The labor camp has ordered her colleagues, friends and family members to come and join in the brainwashing efforts.

“Medical bail” is also used as a persecution method. Instead of unconditionally releasing all who need medical treatment, the camp authorities notify their families to come to the camp, but then tell them that they must write an application, a guarantee, and agree to pay for all medical costs themselves. Families are also forced to affirm that they will limit practitioners' freedom after they return home, so that they cannot practice Falun Gong.
