Former Associate Professor Ms. Liu Ronghua Faces Illegal Sentence, Her Elderly Parents Sue Dalian City Police and Procurators for Breaking the Law

March 20, 2012 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) A nearly 80-year-old couple from Dalian City, Liaoning Province, have gone everywhere over the past six months seeking justice for their daughter, but to no avail. The elderly couple recently sued Dalian City Police Department and Procurators for violating the law.

Ms. Liu Ronghua is the couple's daughter. She is a former associate professor at Dalian Fisheries College. She was subjected to two years of forced labor two years ago for practicing Falun Gong. In September 2011, just as she was about to be released, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities declared their intention to sentence her to prison. Ms. Liu's elderly parents were stunned at the news.

For more than six months, the couple have gone to the police station, police department, the procuratorate, and the court to seek justice for and rescue their daughter, but they have not received any response. Ms. Liu's father was so filled with grief and indignation that he wrote a public letter to expose the crimes committed against his daughter. However, the Dalian City legal system remained indifferent, and insisted on trying Ms. Liu on January 9, 2012.

Ms. Liu's parents decided to file a lawsuit against the main parties responsible for the persecution of their daughter, including Zhongshan District Police Department head Jiang Chaoming, Taoyuan Police Station head Li Litian, and Zhongshan District Procuratorate procurator Wang Jichao. They requested an investigation of these officials who abuse their powers, publicly undermine the rule of law, and break the law while allegedly enforcing the law. They also demand that the so-called “case” against their daughter be revoked and that she be acquitted.

Here is a brief account of the persecution Ms. Liu Ronghua was subjected to and her parents' rescue attempts:

Ms. Liu Ronghua, 47, is a former teacher and associate professor at Dalian Fisheries College. One of her articles was published in the Encyclopedia of China. She is a kind person and always thinks of others. However, because she believes in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance and practices Falun Gong, she has been harassed and abused by CCP agents many times.

On September 22, 2009, Ms. Liu was arrested by officers from the Qingniwa Bridge Police Station. She was sentenced to forced labor for two years and was detained and abused in Masanjia Women's Forced Labor Camp. Because she refused to give up her belief, she was tortured many times with different methods, including the “stretching” torture, which caused her to develop symptoms of heart disease. At one point, her life was in danger as a result of the abuse and torture.

On September 19, 2011, three days before Ms. Liu's forced labor term was due to end, officers from the Taoyuanjie Police Station transferred her from Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to the Yaojia Detention Center. They then prosecuted and tried her.

On January 9, 2012, Zhongshan District Court officials tried Ms. Liu. Two attorneys entered a not-guilty plea for her and requested she be acquitted. But the judge refused to pronounce the verdict at the end of the trial. Two months have passed, and no verdict has been handed down. Ms. Liu's mother has gone to the Zhongshan District Court nearly every day to wait for it, but Judge Jiang Xiaohong, who is in charge of this case, avoids meeting her. Ms. Liu's mother went to many other related departments to inquire about her daughter's case, but no one will respond to her. Li Litian, head of the Taoyuanjie Police Station, even threatened Ms. Liu's mother, saying that if she came to the police station again, he would tell the Procuratorate and court to be even rougher on Ms. Liu.
