Letting Go of Self and Cultivating Xinxing Solidly

December 27, 2012 |   By a Fa-study group in China

(Minghui.org) After studying and discussing the Minghui editorial, “Overseas Disciples Should Not Interfere with Disciples in Mainland China,” published on November 13, 2012,

our Fa-study group in China realized that as practitioners we should pay attention to this security issue, guard our xinxing, and make each of our thoughts conform to the Fa.

Recently, A and B—two practitioners in our Fa-study group—had similar experiences, as noted in the Minghui editorial.

Practitioner A said that she received several calls from her hometown, asking her to write a true-to-life story about her cultivation experiences in China, which was later to be published online.

Practitioner B said that he had received several calls and emails from two relatives in Taiwan, asking him to provide local historical materials as well as compile a history of Dafa's spread in his area—in preparation for a historic archive.

B said that he had complied with his relatives' request and emailed them some materials. However, after reading the above mentioned Minghui editorial, he felt very uneasy. Fortunately, no one has called him yet to do a live interview over the phone.

We should learn some lessons from these experiences, and look deep inside ourselves. When I initially heard that overseas practitioners were calling our city, I thought to myself, “They should have contacted me first. Not only have I attained the Fa earlier than anyone else around me, but I have been persecuted more severely than anyone else, too. Thus I am obviously more capable!” As soon as I had these thoughts, I realized that I had not completely removed the attachment of jealousy.

Practitioner B also discovered that he still harbored the attachment of showing off. He said that he spent three days contemplating what he would write concerning the topic of validating the Fa. In order to ensure that his article was publishedwhich would obviously draw attention to how capable he washe exaggerated some details in his article. He also wanted Teacher to know that he had worked on a lot of different projects and sacrificed both his family and marriage for Dafa.

Practitioner A felt a little embarrassed to admit that she was late in completing the article that overseas practitioners had requested, because she was overly concerned about losing face, that is, if her article was not accepted for publication. She discovered that she still had the attachment of vanity.

As Master said ,

“If you are able to succeed in improving yourself this way, what you do then, with a pure heart, will be the best and most sacred.” (“Further Understanding” from Essentials for Further Advancement).

No matter what we encounter in our day-to-day lives, we should first check to see if we are adding any human thoughts or sentiments to our experience. In addition, we should examine ourselves to see if our motives or goals are pure or not.

Only by eradicating all human attachments, letting go of all negative elements, and holding firm to the goal of saving sentient beings and validating the Fa, will we be able to help Teacher rectify the Fa and fulfill our historic vows.

The above is our group understanding and is for reference only.
