(Minghui.org) Mr. Han Laiqing from Taigu County, Shanxi Province, was arrested on the morning of November 18, 2012 by police officers from the Xinghualing Police Station in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. He is being detained in the Taiyuan City Second Detention Center.

That day a lady was distributing fliers at Fudong Street, Taiyuan City. When she was harassed, Mr. Han Laiqing helped her. The lady was able to escape but Mr. Han was arrested by the police. He shouted loudly “Falun Dafa is good.” He was taken to the Xinghualing Police Station.

When Mr. Han’s wife heard the news, she went to the Xinghualing Police Station around 9:00 p.m. Director Tian Zhikai and deputy director Wu Weiwei confirmed that they had arrested a Falun Gong practitioner. Since Mr. Han refused to tell them his identity, they required Mr. Han’s wife to show them the marriage license before they allowed her to see her husband.

After the police learned that Mr. Han had been previously detained for nine years for practicing Falun Gong, they did not hesitate to persecute him. They also arrested his wife and another practitioner, Ms. Gao Caifeng, who was there, too, to ask for Mr. Han’s release. They searched Mr. Han's cell phone and found his landlord’s phone number. After his landlord identified Mr. Han as a resident, the police went to his apartment and ransacked it. They confiscated his cell phone, cell phone card, more than 3,000 yuan in cash, a computer, a printer, and Falun Gong materials.

Mr. Han’s wife was released after she was forced to sign the interrogation records the next afternoon. Around 7:00 p.m. she went back to the police station to deliver some clothes to her husband and witnessed him being interrogated. Ms. Gao was also interrogated and later taken to her local police station, the Miaoqian Street Police Station, on the morning of November 20.

After Mr. Han had been detained for 34 hours, the officers from the Xinghualing Police Station told his wife to sign the detention warrant. She refused and told them that being a good person is not a crime. Later, Mr. Han was transferred to the Taiyuan City Second Detention Center.

Past Persecution Experience

During the winter of 2001, when Mr. Han Laiqing, Mr. Li Hailin, and Mr. Guo Jinxian were posting and distributing Falun Gong materials, they were arrested. At the detention center they were brutally beaten twice and once hung up with handcuffs behind their backs. They were all sentenced to prison—Mr. Han to nine years, Mr. Li seven years, and Mr. Guo four years. In September 2003, they were sent to Jinzhong Prison. On the second day after they arrived, because Mr. Han refused to wear a prison uniform, the prison guards ordered the inmates to torture him. They pulled him to the restroom and beat him with wooden batons. They also punched him in the chest. Later, they dragged him to a small room in the backyard and pulled his handcuffs up and down to torture him. Then they pushed him to the ground and forcibly put a uniform on him. One of the inmates took off one of his shoes and beat Mr. Han's private part with it. Mr. Han lost consciousness after being beaten for more than 30 minutes. Afterward his body was covered in bruises, especially his chest and legs. He had difficulty breathing and urinating.

In the end of 2009, officials of the Jinzhong Prison required all the prisoners to write an annual report. Mr. Han, Mr. Zhao Fuchen, and Mr. Wang Zhigang all resisted. Inmates Quan Yongjun, Zhang Xiaojun, Yu Tao, Ning Xinchun, Shi Xiangyang, and Hu Rizhi together beat Mr. Han to the ground. When Mr. Han cried out “Falun Dafa is good” to protest, they punched and kicked him, especially in the stomach. He vomited blood and was unable to get up. However, he was later punished and forced to stand up against the wall. When he refused to cooperate, they tried to forced Mr. Zhao and Mr. Wang to stand up with him. Mr. Han did not want to cause trouble for other practitioners, so he ran out of his cell and kept crying out “Falun Dafa is good.” He was dragged back and had handcuffs put on him.

The inmates pulled his handcuffs so hard that the handcuffs cut into his flesh and his wrists bled badly. For the next few days, he was forced to stand up from 5:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. Several days later, he was handcuffed to the bed. It was extremely painful. The hanging-up torture lasted for four days. Then he was forced to stand up again. When Mr. Han refused, he was pulled to the warehouse and beat up then hung up. The inmates also pushed him to the ground, poked his fingertips with needles, and burned his fingers. The repeated torture of beating, standing-up, and hanging-up lasted 18 days.
