The United Nations proclaimed December 5 as “International Volunteers Day.” Under guidance from the Taiwan Ministry of Interior, Kaohsiung City organized National Volunteers' Day on December 1, 2012. The Divine Land Marching Band led the procession into the stadium, and accompanied the events with its 140-member band. After arriving at the site, the band first rehearsed, and then performed until the event completed. The principles “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” showcased by the Falun Dafa practitioners deeply moved the attendees and won their respect. The organizers presented the “Most Humbling Award ” and the “Highest Spirit Award” trophies to the band.

Ms. Huimei Tsu, the director of IAVE Taiwan (The National Representative of International Association for Volunteer Efforts in Taiwan), thanked the Falun Gong practitioners at the event. She spoke to the audience, saying, “My first connection with Falun Gong was in Hong Kong. I saw them (clarifying the truth at tourism sites), being so unselfish. I was very touched, and I admired them. Today, the Divine Land Marching Band was the first to come to the site. Every one of them is so energetic and full of spirit, and deserving of our respect and appreciation.” The attendees applauded and waved their hands when they marched passing the band. Many of them chanted, “Thank you!” “You are great!” Some raised thumbs and said “Good!”

The IAVE in Kaohsiung City was established in 1990. Ms. Tsu from IAVE Taiwan said that the purpose of the event was to promote volunteer service and to improve cohesion. President Ma sent a congratulation letter to the event. Mr. Ju Chen, the mayor of Kaohsiung, and Mr. Jinlong Chen, chairman of the Volunteers Association of Taiwan, attended the event. Volunteer representatives from Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam also attended the event.

Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) was introduced into Taiwan in 1995. With outstanding health improvement effects, the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” and preserving the best of tradition and culture, the practice now has a several hundred thousand practitioners in Taiwan. There are nearly one thousand group practice sites in 300 counties and townships, including the outer islands. The Divine Land Marching Band, entirely composed of Falun Gong practitioners, is often invited to perform at large events such the the National Fire Fighters' Competition and National Sports Meeting, etc.
