(Clearwisdom.net) The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has always sought to conceal the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Even in the close confines of prison, the guards endeavor to keep their evil acts under wraps. Yet, many things done in the dark have been brought to light by the investigative reporting of Falun Gong practitioners.
I recently read a report on the Clearwisdom website entitled “Mr. Yu Yungang Tortured to Death in Jiamusi City Prison Shortly after Mr. Qin Yueming's Death” (http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2011/3/12/123761.html) We get a glimpse of the situation from some numbers provided in that report.
The report gives an account of two practitioners, Mr. Qin Yueming and Mr. Yu Yungang. Mr. Qin was tortured to death on February 26, 2011. Seven days later, Mr. Yu passed away at a hospital. Two persons died in eight days. These fatalities are indicators of the persecution's severity.
Jiamusi Prison had a meeting before the brutality. The warden in charge announced that the transformation rate should reach 85%. The new 85% benchmark undoubtedly became the motivation for the guards and some inmates to escalate the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners..
The warden also set up a “Strict Management Ward” inside the prison, which speaks for itself the purpose. For one thing, they are motivated to escalate the persecution, via new policy directives. For another thing, they want to make the persecution more secretive.
The “Strict Management Ward” was set up on February 21 and held nine Falun Gong practitioners. Five days later, Mr. Qin Yueming was killed. Twelve days later, Mr. Yu Yungang was killed. The intensity of the persecution there is beyond imagination.
What kind of physical punishments were used? We don't know for the time being because of the blockade of information. However, we can gain some idea about the persecution by looking at their situations before death.
Mr. Qin Yueming lived at Jinshantun District, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. He made a living by collecting waste materials. Mr. Qin was sentenced to three years in Yichun Forced Labor Camp in October 1999. In April 2002, Mr. Qin was arrested again. Meng Xianhua, head of the 610 Office ordered guards to torture Mr. Qin using beatings, verbal abuse, tying him to a tiger bench, tying him up with ropes, and other abuses. The torture left Mr. Qin with broken ribs and a fractured leg. He was later sentenced to ten years of prison and was sent to the Jiamusi Prison.
Mr. Qin was mistreated with severe physical punishment before, yet survived. This time he was tortured to death in just six days. What he suffered this go around must be more brutal than what he had suffered previously.
Mr. Yu Yungang passed out due to torture at around 3 p.m. on March 1, 2011, and was rushed to the 2nd Hospital affiliated with Jiamusi University. He went through Craniotomy surgery. The doctor took out a piece of skull from his head, and issued a “Notice of Critical Condition” to his family and suggested hat they prepare for the worst. Apparently, Mr. Yu suffered bleeding within his skull. If not, what was the purpose of the surgery? Why did the doctor remove a piece of his skull? His head injury must have been caused by violence.
Mr. Yu was closely watched by the prison. His room was heavily guarded by uniformed and plainclothes officers. The doctors and nurses couldn’t enter his room without permission. His family was allowed to visit briefly after repeated demands, but found Mr. Yu could not recognize them during the visit. Mr. Yu's family demanded to view his body in the ICU room after he passed away, but were refused. Officers carried his body downstairs and into a police vehicle. The family members present firmly requested to wait until remaining family in route could arrive. The Deputy Prison Director said, “I will only give you five minutes to view his body.” After Mr. Yu's family saw him in the vehicle for five minutes, the vehicle sped off like a getaway car.
Through these accounts, we can see that the bloody persecution in Jiamusi Prison is on the rise.
