(Clearwisdom.net) A large number of Falun Gong practitioners in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province have been illegally arrested since mid-May 2011, including many intellectuals. Here we would like to focus on the cases of nine practitioners: Ms. Zhang Aidong, Ms. Shui Li, Mr. Ma Zhenyu, Mr. Zhang Xuefeng, Ms. Liu Kaimei, Ms. Chen Haiyan, Ms. Zhou Liqin, Ms. Li Qun, and Ms. Zhang Yuhua.
The first seven mentioned above have been arrested. Ms. Li Qun and Ms. Zhang Yuhua were forced to stay away from home to avoid persecution and their current whereabouts are unknown. Four out of the nine practitioners were forced into a divorce, including Mr. Ma Zhenyu, Ms. Chen Haiyan, Ms. Zhou Liqin, and Ms. Zhang Yuhua.
1. Ms. Zhang Aidong arrested seven times and sent to a labor camp three times
Ms. Zhang Aidong, 60 years old, is an engineer and works at the No. 14 Research Institute of China, Electronics Technology Group, Nanjing City. She was arrested numerous times, detained in a brainwashing center and another detention facility, and incarcerated in a labor camp three times (beginning of 2000, in July 2005, and September 2009). She was severely tortured in the Judong Women's Labor Camp in Jiangsu Province, and was released in the beginning of 2010.
Ms. Zhang Aidong was arrested in her home around 8:00 a.m. on September 14, 2011, by more than ten agents from the 610 Office in Nanjing City, 610 Office in Gulou District, and Jiangdong Police Station. This was her seventh arrest and she was detained at the Gulou District Detention Center. Her personal belongings were confiscated, including Falun Gong books, a computer, and other items.

2. Ms. Shui Li, Class 1 Police Supervisor, mistreated
Ms. Shui Li, almost 70 years old, was formerly an engineer and worked at Pukou Prison in Nanjing City and her rank was Class 1 Police Supervisor. Police officers and 610 Office agents arrested and detained her many times. She was held at the Brainwashing Center in Nanjing City, the Brainwashing Center in Gulou District, and at her own workplace (Pukou Prison).
After she was released, Ms. Shui was being watched by police officers, her home phone was bugged, and even her family members, who are non-practitioners, were affected. Her older son was arrested and detained for 15 days and his home ransacked, while her younger son was detained for 48 hours.
Ms. Shui was arrested again at home in the afternoon on July 29, 2011, and taken to the Nanjing City Detention Center. When her one-month detention term expired, she was transferred to the Gulou District Brainwashing Center and later released.

3. Mr. Ma Zhengyu, an engineer, persecuted five times, his heart severely impaired
Mr. Ma Zhenyu was born in Datong City, Shanxi Province in June 1962. He was formerly an engineer and a technical expert for the Chinese Electronics Technology Group in Nanjing City. He was also the chief designer for major military electrical products.
Mr. Ma was arrested in November 2000, sentenced to seven years of imprisonment and taken to Suzhou Prison. His wife divorced him in order to prevent their daughter from being implicated. When he was released in November 2007, he had no place to go.
On April 30, 2009, Mr. Ma was arrested again and detained for six months. He was arrested for the fifth time on May 29, 2011. Xiao Ningjian led agents from the 610 Office in Nanjing City, Domestic Security Division, and Sisuocun Police Station in Xiaguan District and arrested him. They tortured him, which caused his heart to be severely impaired. He was also sentenced to 18 months detention in a labor camp. He was taken to a labor camp twice and officials there refused to accept him due to his poor health. Mr. Ma's heart disease deteriorated, and he is currently being held in a detention center.

4. Mr. Zhang Xuefeng, his wife Liu Kaimei, and their family mistreated
Mr. Zhang Xuefeng, born in 1965, was formerly an officer in the Civil Engineering Department of Nanjing Industrial University. His wife Liu Kaimei was born in 1966, and used to be an engineer at the Gulou District Department of Education. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started, the couple have been deprived of employment.
Officials at the Xiaguan District Court sentenced Mr. Zhang to eight and a half years of imprisonment in August 2002. He was detained at Suzhou Prison and family visits were prohibited. Xiaguan Court officials also sentenced his wife Liu Kaimei to seven years of imprisonment and detained her at Nantong Women’s Prison. After she was released, agents from the 610 Office in Xiaguan District went to her home many times to harass her. The same agents arrested her on July 2, 2008, and took her to the Gulou District Brainwashing Center.
During the eight years of Mr. Zhang's detention, his parents’ home was ransacked. Officials arrested his mother Chen Jinhua and held her at a detention center, followed by incarceration in a brainwashing center. They did not release her until she was severely ill. His father Mr. Zhang Ruijiang was kept at the Nanjing Brainwashing Center for several months. In addition, Mr. Zhang was prohibited from visiting him and was terrified by all these incidents.
Agents from the Nanjing City 610 Office and local police officers arrested the couple again on May 16, 2011. They also sentenced them to a labor camp for 18 months and one year, respectively. Mrs. Liu went on a hunger strike while in detention in order to protest their maltreatment. Because of being physically abused, her heart sometimes stopped beating. Police officers took her to the Judong Women’s Labor Camp five times, but officials there always refused to accept her due to her poor health. Nonetheless, she is currently being held at the Judong Women’s Labor Camp and Mr. Zhang is detained at the Fangqiang Labor Camp.

5. Associate Professor and General Manager Ms. Chen Haiyan brutally abused
Ms. Chen Haiyan, a practitioner in her 50s, was an Associate Professor at China Pharmaceutical University and later became a manager at the Xuzhou Healthcare Import and Export Corporation. She was then appointed as General Manager at the Textile Company of the Jiangsu Materials Corporation.
After the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Ms. Chen was incarcerated in the Detention Center in Nanjing City because she had gone to Beijing to appeal. At that time, her husband was just promoted to Major General. Wen Zhongren from the Nanjing Military Region and Wang Rongsheng, the head of the provincial 610 Office, forced her family to take her to the Nanjing Mental Hospital, where she was tortured for four months. In addition, officials forced them to get a divorce and forced her husband to marry another woman within three months.
Because of distributing truth-clarification materials, Ms. Chen was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2002. After being tortured with various methods, she was released in 2010. She lived with a relative and worked in a pharmacy.
Police officers arrested Ms. Chen again in the afternoon on May 26, 2011. They later released her because of her high blood pressure.

6. Ms. Zhou Liqin deceived and harassed
Ms. Zhou Liqin was born in 1966 and holds a Bachelor's degree. She was arrested several times, taken to brainwashing centers, and deprived of her job.
At the end of 2000, Ms. Zhou was sentenced to two years of forced labor, where she was deceived and “transformed” and thus stopped practicing Falun Gong. When she was released in the summer of 2002, she realized she had been deceived, and resumed practicing. In order to avoid harassment, she traveled far away to Shenzhen City and found a job there.
In late 2005, after Ms. Zhou returned to Nanjing City, police officers arrested her and took her to the Nanjing City Brainwashing Center. Her husband divorced her.
The police sent about 20 plainclothes agents to Ms. Zhou's home on May 15, 2011. They arrested the practitioners who were in her home and were studying together, a total of about ten people. Ms. Zhou and Ms. Peng Guihua were taken to a detention center, and were later sentenced to 15 months in a forced labor camp.
7. Military Academy Associate Professor Ms. Li Qun mistreated
Ms. Li Qun is an Associate Professor and was born in 1969. She graduated from Nanjing PLA University for Science and Technology. Because of her belief, she was detained and tortured in the Nanjing Mental Hospital for more than two months.
In 2001, Ms. Li was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor, which was later extended by six months. She was deceived and “transformed” in the labor camp, and stopped practicing Falun Gong. After her release, 610 Office agents closely watched her and forced her into being a spy. When she resumed practicing, her husband, a serviceman, refused to divorce her and was thus forced to leave the army. In August 2009, Ms. Li was arrested and taken to the Nanjing Brainwashing Center, where she was detained for six months. Officials did not allow her husband to get employment. They also threatened their daughter and said she was “inferior” in front of her teachers and classmates.
8. Associate Professor Ms. Zhang Yuhua persecuted
Ms. Zhang Yuhua, 48 years old, was formerly an Associate Professor and head of the Russian Department at the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures in Nanjing Normal University.
When the persecution began in July 1999, Ms. Zhang went to the provincial capital to appeal. She was arrested and her case was well-known in the education division. Her husband was forced to divorce her. She was later tortured in a labor camp and prison.
In Autumn 2000, Ms. Zhang was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp. In 2002, she was fired from her job at the Nanjing Normal University. In 2003, she was sentenced to four years of imprisonment and taken to the Nanjing Women's Prison. In April 2009, officers from the Qixia Police Department arrested six practitioners, including her and Mr. Ma Zhenyu. She was sent to the Judong Women's Forced Labor Camp for one and a half years.
To avoid further persecution, Ms. Zhang was forced to stay away from home.
