October 10, 2011 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent in Guangdong Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Tao Yonghong from Maoming City, Guangdong Province was arrested on June 9, 2011, along with an elderly practitioner as they spoke with people about Falun Gong in Zhensheng Town. Officers from the Zhensheng Police Station made the arrest.

Ms. Tao is currently in the Maoming No. 1 Detention Center. The officials there refused to allow her family to visit her.

According to someone who had since been released from the detention center, Ms. Tao was severely beaten. There were bruises on both sides of her body, and she was placed in shackles for two weeks.

The Maoming City police ransacked Ms. Tao's home but didn't find anything they wanted. So they showed Ms. Tao's photo to her neighbors and asked them if Ms. Tao had given them Falun Gong informational materials.

The 70-year-old practitioner who had been arrested along with Ms. Tao was released from the Maoming Brainwashing Center because of her poor health. She recently received a summons from the local court, informing her of her trial in October.

Ms. Tao's mother is in her late 70s. She went to different government departments to demand her daughter's release, but they turned her away. When she went to the Maoming City 610 Office, the agents said, “Just wait for the sentence.” The elderly woman is very sad and worried. After her daughter was arrested, her pension was suspended.
