(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Lanrui was arrested on August 10, 2010, and has since been detained at the Zhengding County Detention Center. Her health has severely declined as a result of being tortured in the center.

Ms. Zheng was a secretary at the Committee of Managerial Reformation, Zhengding County Government, Hebei Province. She was detained for one month in 2000, and 5,000 yuan was extorted from her by the local 610 Office because she had distributed materials telling about the persecution of Falun Gong. While she was being detained, she refused to renounce her belief in Falun Gong, so the government laid her off. When she was distributing materials about the persecution in July 2001, she was arrested a second time and taken to the Xinle County Detention Center. She was later transferred to the Zhengding County Detention Center, where she was tortured to the brink of death and had to be carried on a stretcher to the county hospital.

Ms. Zheng was in critical condition in late 2001. She lost consciousness several times and was unable to get out of bed. Ms. Zheng's younger sister, Ms. Zheng Lanxia, insisted that her sister be taken home to be looked after. When the hospital confirmed that Ms. Zheng would not live much longer, the local 610 Office finally agreed to let Ms. Zheng's family take her home.

When she first arrived at home, Ms. Zheng was unable to do anything, not even take care of herself. However, she continued practicing the Falun Gong exercises, and regained her health. After she had recovered, she asked her former supervisors if she could resume work, and demanded that they pay her the salary that they owed her. Neither of her requests was taken seriously, however.

Ms. Zheng was later arrested a third time. She was forced to work without pay in the Zhengding County Detention Center, including packing chopsticks and assembling boxes. Her health became poor again due to the heavy workload and she fainted frequently because of heart disease. She was nonetheless forced to continue working after she regained consciousness.

Ms. Zheng's husband, Mr. Song Jianmin, was also a Falun Gong practitioner and an employee of the county government. He was arrested as well and their home was ransacked in June 2001. Before that, their home had been searched several times already. The local police confiscated over 10,000 yuan in cash, a car, a copier, cell phones, some housewares, identification documents, personal photos, letters, diaries, and some jewelry.

The husband and wife were both interrogated at the local police station. Four police officers tortured Mr. Song at night. Officer Cai Shengli handcuffed Mr. Song with a small handcuff that cut into his wrists. He passed out twice because of the tremendous pain. Cai Shengli also kicked Mr. Song's shins. His shins bled badly, as did his wrists. Cai Shengli also instructed police officer Zhang Dongbin to hit Mr. Song on the back, legs, and buttocks with a thick club. Mr. Song was covered with bruises. After the torture, Mr. Song was handcuffed to the side of a bed in a half-standing/half-crouching position until 8:00 a.m., when the interrogation resumed the next day. The perpetrators were police officer Cai Shengli, Juan Lihua (female), Zhang Dongbin, and police driver Yu Ligang. After three days of torture, Mr. Song was sent to Zhengding County in late June 2001 and then to the Lingshou County Detention Center three days later.

Mr. Song and Ms. Zheng Lanxia were handcuffed and transported with regular criminals in an open truck across the county to a collective trial open to the public on September 26, 2002. Mr. Song was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in the Zhengding Detention Center. Since then he has been in Baoding Prison in Baoding City, Hebei Province.

Ms. Zheng's father is a retired teacher and her over 80-year-old mother is very sick. The whole family has been persecuted due to their practice of Falun Gong. They hope the persecution will end soon and their daughter and son-in-law can come home to re-unite with the family.
